Meet Andretta Rhone of Black Teachers Educate in South Fulton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andretta Rhone.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From a young age, I was already on the path to being a teacher. My ceaseless curiosity, dedication to hard work and desire to share knowledge paved the way for an impressive educational background and notable career in academia. My parents were both education majors in college and then went on to successful careers. It was only natural that I follow in their footsteps as well as my passion. I attended Alabama A&M University and graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education.

After being a classroom teacher for about seven years, I started to move with the trend of creating a “teacher account” on social media platforms. I saw educators posting their amazing lessons and the students that were learning from them. One day, I was searching for inspiration for an upcoming lesson. I found the inspiration, but what I also found were so many amazing black educators who were doing great things in their classroom! The creativity, ideas, and dialogue were so inspiring. The only problem was, I couldn’t find one resource where I could connect with these inspiring black educators.

From that moment I created Black Teachers Educate, LLC. Black Teachers Educate was created to connect, support, and highlight black educators and those who prepare, support and empower them in the classroom. Black educators from across the world can share ideas, post questions, and collaborate with other teachers on their day to day happenings through group discussions and community support.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been the smoothest ride with creating this platform, but it most definitely has been so rewarding! My biggest struggle is like an entrepreneur and that’s just finding time to complete everything on my to-do list. I teach 1st grade during the day and tutor students across the city until 7:00 pm during the week. My days are long, but my passion for seeing so many educators connect through Black Teachers Educate gives me the energy I need to push through the day.

Black Teachers Educate – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Black Teachers Educate specializes in giving teachers access to the most powerful resource of all – each other! We strive for teachers to learn by seeing what other teachers are doing in their classrooms and also we pride ourselves in giving teachers the recognition they deserve! Not many people know or can understand the challenges that teachers face day to day in their classrooms. Which is why we are proud that we can support teachers in making a greater impact in their classroom by providing a trusted online community.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
As a teacher, I always want to be successful to ensure the success of my students. As a business owner, I hold myself to the same standard. I inspire for Black Teachers Educate to reach as many black educators as possible. I want for each of them to utilize the support that our community gives and join us in our movement to be the leading resource for black educators.
