Meet Andrew Detherow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Detherow.

Andrew, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up I didn’t get to spend time with my real parents or find out the value of family. My biological parents decided to put me into an orphanage only after a couple days of being born until I was about 7. I was born in Odessa, Odessa Oblast, Ukraine. On September 6, 2001, I was adopted by the only mom I know –  my mother (Hannah) came all the way over from the USA to get my sister and I on the same day. My time here in the states has been a new journey for me with the amount of opportunities that I have been able to be part of. I graduated Stone Mountain High school in May of 2014. I then started college in the fall  of 2014 at Georgia Gwinnett College where I started off being a Information Technology major, after three years I decided to switch my major to Film/ Acting. So I joined the CMAP program. I have made lots of connections with the faculty, teachers and students at my college. I couldn’t ask for a better college to be at to grow my skills in film. For the past two years I have been apart of different film productions ranging from helping with the gaffer position or rather it be directing my own movie. Throughout my time at Georiga Gwinnett College I learned a lot about different classes I have taken. I want to give big thanks to all that has been there for me and to know that I appreciate it. My new family is always there to help each other plus the community around us. I have made so many friends around the United States from coast to coast to include an amazing friend, Jerhvon. My adopted siblings; brother: James and sisters: Paulina, Tatiana and Dawn all have great bonds.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road with a few dings. Some of these have a factor of how I was taught growing up.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Andrew Detherow Photography specializes in Photo sessions for any events ranging from Baby showers to weddings and more. I started about a year ago. Since then, I have been able to help so many customers capture the perfect photo they request. Some of the things I am known for is making films for any vendor that may be looking for someone to capture a big important moment. What sets me apart from others is the amount of support I get from all over the states.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be when I went to six flags for the first time after arriving in Atlanta.
