Meet Andrew Phillips of TheAMPImage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Phillips.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my journey with a BA in illustration and went forward to get an MFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. I love to draw but photography is a much faster way to get my ideas out.

I currently make metro Atlanta my home, where I teach photography and I am often a featured speaker and workshop facilitator.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If the road is smooth then you aren’t truly successful. Every bump every opposition is a learning experience. I have had to struggle with money to create, with inspiration to push forward, with having to take people to court for stealing my images. It was all to make me realize and understand that success takes faith and sacrifice. So I am glad when I am shown where my foundation is weak because then I know how to build it back stronger.

Please tell us about TheAMPImage.
I like to skillfully finesse the spot-on combination of lighting, creativity, and personality that make visuals unforgettable. I specialize in various types of photo imagery, including fitness, corporate, editorial, portrait, and high fashion.

I am most proud of the work being produced by a small team which is 95% of the time just me. I have friends that help out but I don’t have a big business with assistants on deck and such. Just a group of my friends who I also always photograph for my personal work.

I would have to say its mainly my personality that sets me apart from others. I have been told that I bring an “Added Value” to the experience.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I actually don’t remember much of my childhood, which I know sounds strange. But from what I can remember I guess I would say it was when I finally had enough and beat up a kid that was bullying me. My brother and sisters were there cheering me on.
