Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Vivaldo.
Angel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
For a long time, I felt like maybe I was going down the wrong career path. Maybe being in the music industry wasn’t for me. Everyone around me was accomplishing so much I felt left out. Fast forward to my junior year of college, I needed an internship credit, I tried my hand at video intern for Rap Plug Inc. This was my first time ever using a camera and editing footage. I felt like it really helped advance me as a creative. Just being in that environment helped me realize like, hey maybe this is my calling. Ever since then I’ve been making content for so many other amazing creatives, artists, DJs, brands, it’s been great. I wouldn’t be where I’m at now if it weren’t for the amazing people I’ve met along the way. They’ve always believed in me, so I always known to bet on myself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a rollercoaster, I always wanted to be around music. I just never knew how I fit into the picture. I had my mind set on a different path than where I am now. From A&R, Artist, and Producer, I couldn’t find my niche. Even when I did find out video was my calling. It wasn’t always great. Especially at the beginning. People were more experienced, which made me think less of myself, you know imposter syndrome. I had people say my footage wasn’t good, edits weren’t good. Using equipment for the first time was rough. It was a learning process I had to overcome. Turn the negatives into motivation. Keep going. Don’t give up on yourself!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So I specialize in videography. I make recaps, music videos, behind-the-scenes and short-form content. I would say what separates me from others would be my drive to be the best. That might sound cliche but it’s true. I always find myself learning more and more with every project. I do my best to deliver the best quality to clients, and there’s a lot of love poured in each and every project I release. I would say I’m most proud of where I am now. I never thought I would make a name for myself. I know younger me would be proud.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Personally, I’ve always sucked at networking. I’m actually a really shy person. It takes me a while to get out of my comfort zone. But networking is really essential to get anywhere in life. So you just have to do it. I would say if you’re a person into photography or videography and you see another person holding a camera, go talk to them. Talk to artists, they always need the content made. Talk to anyone you know that’s a creative. You never know how much knowledge they can share with you. I’ve met so many people, who I now call friends, who continue to educate me, and give me opportunities I thought I would never have. Take a leap of faith.
