Meet Angela Chambliss of AngelsNTech in South Fulton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Chambliss.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Angela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The idea of AngelsNTech came in a vision to my Co-Founder and sister in love, Tarenia Carthan and I in the spring of 2016. We discussed the gender and equality gap of women and minorities in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics disciplines (STEAM). We asked ourselves, “How can we build an organization to address this challenge head-on?” AngelsNTech was organized to serve as a pipeline for underrepresented middle and high school minority females by introducing them to a vast curriculum of STEAM topics. Our curriculum includes hosting local business leaders who would share their path to success, configuring laboratory exercises which focus on implementing innovation, hackathons that challenge the entrepreneurial spirit, and job shadowing opportunities with partnering professionals.

With roughly 350 metro Atlantans directly benefiting from the services of AngelsNTech to date, the impact of the organization continues to strengthen each year. Participants have gained over 4,000 hours within our program. Our vision is to Ignite a passion for STEAM, innovate techniques of tomorrow while problem-solving today’s’ challenges, and Inspire the next generation for change.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I, like most business leaders, don’t really like to talk about challenges. Over the years, I’ve learned it’s a difficult conversation to have with yourself and others but it’s necessary for growth. We have certainly had our fair share of challenges and have now labeled those challenges as opportunities. Some of our opportunities include;

Participant consistency is an integral part of the program. With life’s challenges and changing priorities, it can be challenging to have the consistency of program participants, especially when they are active in school activities and balancing calendars of parents/guardians or siblings. At AngelsNTech, we’ve recognized this can be difficult and as a result, a part of our mission is engaging parents within our programs to provide support and resources for being champions and advocates of their child’s dreams and aspirations. This fosters making programs like AngelsNTech a priority as it will contribute to their child’s future.

Device accessibility can be challenging for some of our programs as they are “bring your own device” based events. These events are mostly our coding events and can be challenging as several participating youth do not have laptops or mobile devices. We’ve identified this as a significant challenge and determined to use a portion of program funds to purchase laptops and tablets so that participants do not have to worry about the constraint of not having a device to participate in our programs.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with AngelsNTech – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.

This grassroot effort has impacted hundreds youth metro wide with the help of 20 volunteers and corporate partnerships, most notably with the consistent financial support of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. Our efforts have also garnered the support of the Fulton County Arts and Culture Center, Fulton County Libraries, and Girls Scouts of America.

The immediate success of AngelsNTech has had direct impact on our participants academically. Several parents have noticed grade increases in core competencies related to STEAM and strengthen critical thinking skills. In addition, several STEAM professionals have contributed over 60 hours collectively to sharing their technical background and providing resources. This is seriously impressive!

At AngelsNTech, we are providing consistent mentorship towards helping our participants achieve their dreams. Our programming portfolio includes:

Coding Programs
How to Build a Website in a Day: HTML Design Workshops
Robotics
Artificial Intelligence
Script I.T. Film I.T.
Wearable Technology Workshops
Aerospace Engineering Programs
Marine Biology Exploration Programs
Peer Hack-A-Thon

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We look forward to furthering the mission of AngelsNTech to impact more youth in metro Atlanta. We’re always thinking, “how can we expand our reach?” Part of this goal is establishing relationships with local middle and high school counselors to identify program participants and monitoring their success over a period of engagement.

In addition, we’d like to bring AngelsNTech to every summer camp program with the creation of STEAM Kits. For every summer camp program in Atlanta, we’d like to encourage an attitude of innovation throughout one’s summer fun.

If you are a local guidance counselor or summer camp organizer, reach out to AngelsNTech and we’d love to bridge a partnership with your organization. The future is shining bright for AngelsNTech and we’re blessed to take you on this journey with us!

Great program and effort to bridge the digital divide among young women. Mrs. Carthan-Chambliss has always been a forward thinking information technology leader. I had the pleasure of working with her during her time as a Savannah State University Student. Congratulations on highlighting this important work.
