Meet Angelenna Grant-Ashanti

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelenna Grant-Ashanti.

Angelenna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was involved in real estate as a youth. My grandparents raised me on a farm that they owned. They owned so much land that they were able to sell it to other members in the community to build on. I also had my mother, who was a great role model when it came to owning real estate and investing. I watched her rent out rooms to individuals for profit and used equity from her home for other projects. Between my grandparents and my mother, I was exposed to owning real estate and investing early on. Once I became grown and got out on my own, I bought my first property at the age of 23, rented out one of the rooms, which allowed me to be able to afford the property. My future husband owned a property too. When we got ready to buy our dream home, I thought, why would I let someone make the commission off of my home when I can go to real estate school, sell myself my home and pocket the commission. That is what inspired me to get my real estate license. My husband and I sold both properties, used the profit towards our new home and made the commission off of it. This launched my career as a realtor and investor. I have sold and continue to sell millions in real estate per year.  We now own five rental properties and sold one of them this year which resulted in a huge profit.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not a smooth ride… I was poor as a single parent and on welfare at the age of 21. I had to work multiple jobs in order to take care of the two of us. The hard work paid off from me saving and buying my first piece of property at 23.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a licensed real estate agent and investor in the Atlanta metropolitan area. I specialize in servicing investors, first-time homebuyers and relocations. I love selling real estate and assisting my clients with purchasing their dream home. I am very patient and have a wealth of knowledge which I use to teach clients during the homebuying process. I am always available for my clients both before and after the transaction closes. I have lived in the metro Atlanta area for 34 years and am very familiar with all the neighborhoods, which makes it easy for me to advise my clients on the best places to live. Above all, I am a master negotiator and believe in the motto of “we will ask…they can only say yes or no.” I make sure that my client walks away with the best deal, whether selling a home or buying one.

I was awarded the highest-selling real estate agent of the month this past July at my brokerage.

I am a Redfin Partner agent.

I am currently studying for the Real Estate Broker exam and plan to open my own brokerage in 2021.

I was also selected to be an Amazon Influencer where I recommend household products to clients/customers

I was one of 100 Black women selected to appear on OWN TV Black Women Own the Conversation.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I always sold something. I was the candy lady in middle school and in my neighborhood. I would make candy apples and sell those. I would go door to door selling products to my neighbors. I have always been a very talkative and outgoing person.
