Meet Angelica Mario’n of F.A.T.E-Focusing on Arts Talent & Empowerment in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Mario’n.

Angelica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Angelica Mario’n and I am an actress, print model, Professor, and CEO of F.A.T.E which is an acronym for Focusing on Arts Talent and Empowerment. I started a career in performance at the age of 4 when my mother enrolled me in my first ballet class. Shortly, after I joined a kids singing group and performed in front of anyone who would listen. Being raised in Detroit Michigan; I attended Cass Technical high school the home of Diana Ross where I studied under my drama teacher and mentor Marilyn McCormick. In the black box theatre at Cass Tech; I felt safe and that’s when the true love story began. After graduation, I had my fair share of ups and downs that seemed to come with the territory of the life of an artist. After a million come to Jesus moments I decided that the life of an actor was life for me. I began booking commercial gigs and enrolled in a conservatory. Shortly after, I was accepted in acting conservatory in London, U.K where I trained and obtained my Masters in Theatre. The training and performance opportunities in London awarded me the confidence to break into the U.S entertainment industry.

Following my arrival back to the states; I attempted to take on the Chicago and New York market but very quickly ran out of money. With little to no clarity, I followed my instincts and bought a one way ticket to Atlanta. It is in Atlanta that I began to break into the industry with many commercial bookings for Diet Coke, Georgia Power, Mc Donald’s, Smart Water, and many more. Later followed many appearances on tv/film. I currently teach four acting classes at Georgia State University with a Total of 250 students. Beginning Acting, Acting Styles, Dramatic Writing, and Intro to Theatre are just a few classes I teach. I also run my company F.A.T.E; which focuses on arts, talent empowering all around the world. We’ve hosted events in Chicago, NYC, Detroit, Senegal Africa, London, LA, etc. We provide acting coaching/career consultations for the artist, women empowerment retreats/ workshops, and mentorship programs with at risk teens/youth.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The lifestyle of an artist has not been a smooth road; it’s been full of the head on collisions. Many roadblocks, detours, and u-turns. However, the journey of an artist has taught me unequivocal faith. After spending all my funds on career tools and living expenses; I moved back to the U.S with $47 and a dream. Anxious, but not afraid because I had been in this same uncomfortable place many times. When I was at my lowest I learned the most about my character and my ability to achieve anything. I’ve worked many jobs because as a girl boss I’ve always been willing to do whatever it takes to make my dreams my reality. The life of an artist comes with much rejection and even more redirection. As in actor; we must truly KNOW ourselves to take on the life of another. The journey of mastering oneself; comes with its own set of obstacles. I now embrace the challenges that come with this journey… Heck I’ve always been fascinated with rollercoasters after all.

Please tell us about your business.
I am the founder of F.A.T.E which is short for Focusing on Arts Talent and Empowerment. Our mission is to cultivate change globally through women empowerment, retreats, workshops, acting/life coaching, and outreach program for at risk teen girls. We’ve traveled and activated events in NYC, Chicago, LA, London, and Senegal Africa. We currently have clients that we’ve coached on many major tv networks. F.A.T.E is currently in collaboration with Inner Beauty Models academy in Detroit Michigan where we mentor at risk middle school girls. We offer the teens acting/modeling lessons which awards them opportunities to perform in showcases and fashion shows. Our goal is to enhance the self esteem of young girls globally while assisting women in the healing of all wombs through arts and empowerment.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over; I would have followed my heart sooner. I would have listened to my instincts & spent more time learning exactly who I am. I wouldn’t have done anything differently; I just would have changed my focus in my earlier days. My soul has always known my destiny. I would have simply listened the first time it spoke to me.
