Meet Angelyn Tipton of Goggans Florist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelyn Tipton.

Please share your story with us.
Proudly serving the Barnesville, Georgia area since 1969, we’re a premier full-service florist that is family-owned and operated. Goggans Nursery was started by Max Goggans in the 1950’s with the florist being opened by Maxine Goggans Gibson in 1969. Max built the original 2 story chalet on the family property. It eventually out grew the chalet and the business was moved to a 3000 sq. ft. building in historic downtown Barnesville. Maxine and I are members of the Georgia State Florist Association and have served on its board for many years. I won the Design of the Year competition for GA in 2005, 2008, and in 2015. We continue to strive to serve our customers like family.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our original building was in a residential area built behind the family home. While it had to 2 large greenhouses and a 1200 sq. ft. building, we out grew out facility. We remolded a building in historic downtown Barnesville and moved in 2001. We eventually closed our greenhouses and expanded out gift services at the new store.

Please tell us about Goggans Florist.
We are a full service florist and served several generations of families for all their floral needs. While we do everything from sympathy, everyday, prom and wedding, we are most know for our beautiful sympathy work and weddings. Maxine Gibson is our sympathy specialist and Angelyn Tipton is our wedding specialist. Maxine and Angelyn have a passion for flowers. We continue our education in floral design by traveling to several floral design schools every year. Angelyn is the only accredited floral designer in the area. Angelyn is a Georgia Master Florist, Certified Floral Designer, and was inducted into American Institute of Floral Designers.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Since I grew up in a cardboard flower box lined with quilts in the flower shop, I remember all the smells of the flowers. I played “florist” from a very young age. Every day I got to smell the roses and enjoy seeing all of the flowers shipping to the florist. So yes, I fell in love with flowers from a very young age. Not only the flowers but all the smiles that we brought to others when we took a bouquet to somebody.
