Today we’d like to introduce you to Anika.
Anika, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started in 2015. I had started a group chat with my college girlfriends, where we began to talk about everything from relationships to sex to astrology and more. We realized that we had so many questions and hadn’t felt comfortable sharing them with anyone, and more than this, we had answers for each other’s questions, along with experience and stories to share. This group had become invaluable to us (and it’s still going strong today!) and I wished that all women had access to a group where they felt safe to explore the varied experiences of being women. I created Black Girl Bliss to be that safe space from women and femmes everywhere.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been interesting for sure. The platform has gone through many iterations and I have changed my mind a million times about what kind of value BGB would offer. When I decided I wanted to monetize the platform is when things got a little scary. I didn’t know if my community would take well to being sold anything after having a free platform for years. The level of support my community has shown continues to surprise me every day.

Black Girl Bliss is an educational platform dedicated to cultivating the spiritual, sexual, and self-care practices of Black women and femmes who are beginning or reactivating their journey to understanding and embracing their feminine power through pleasure.
#JuicyJuju is the name of our sisterhood committed to being in tune with ourselves, our bodies, our spirits, our environments, and our Universe. We avail ourselves of all the riches, resources, and support that the physical and spiritual realms provide in order to learn how to heal and become our most authentic selves.
We celebrate our sacred and secular intersections – we are regal and ratchet, hot and holy, divine, daring, and dauntless. We believe in our ability to manifest worlds of our desires and create lives that we love.
Our best selling book, Pussy Prayers: Sacred and Sensual Rituals for Wild Women of Color, has been read by people all over the world.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been nerdy, bookish, and very much an introvert. I was raised an only child. I loved to read, write, and learn things from random books I’d find around the house or on the internet once we got a computer. I have always been interested in things considered weird or obscure, and deep dives through Google led me to all kinds of topics related to spirituality, which has been a major part of my life ever since. From an early age, I wanted to be a writer and a teacher, and at different times in my life, I’ve been both of these things. My business allows me to explore and do all the things I have always loved.
