Today we’d like to introduce you to Anissa Blair.
Anissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Wow, how did I get here?! I’m still trying to get there. LOL! I started to hate my job and I mean really hate it! I recall a conversation I had with God in October 2017 and I asked, what is my purpose? I know how to be a daughter, mother, wife, and friend but what is my true purpose. I felt like this 9 to 5 wasn’t meant for me. I came to a crossroads where God truly begin to make me uncomfortable at work; to the point that I started questioning who I was and more importantly questioning is this all there is to life and was my life meant to be this way–just going through the motion waiting simply for nothing to happen. I then started my blog blendedlikeus.com as a way to get my feet wet with writing again. I enjoyed it, but there was still something missing and no matter what I did; I couldn’t put my finger on it. I knew that writing gave me an escape from life, but I felt like the blog wasn’t quite fulfilling me.
You know I believe that God places people in your life for a season, reason or a lifetime. And as much as I despised my job; I met a person who became instrumental in helping me find my source of fulfillment and that’s when I picked up the book that I wrote over 16 years ago and decided regardless of what obstacles were going to be placed in my path; I was going to succeed at any cost. I started believing what I wanted and visualizing it. Of course to think that all I had to do was snap my fingers and manifest all my dreams to reality is far from the truth. Time passed and I let doubt and insecurity take a front seat and my dreams and aspirations were hanging on by the rearview mirror. September 4, 2018, I once again went to God in prayer for direction. That particular day, I took a mental health day from work (sick day) and decided that I would stay in bed all day and have a personal pity party. The spirit led me to the park where I decided for the first time ever to listen to Oprah’s podcast and I heard the story of Steve Harvey saved me. There is no magic beanstalk that will take you to a fairyland where nothing ever goes wrong. I had to make my dream a reality not only for myself but for my family. I decided that day I wanted to leave my family a legacy.
Has it been a smooth road?
Where is there a smooth road? Heck no, the struggle is real every day. Especially when you put 100% effort and the return isn’t close to it. I’ve fallen and scraped my knees more than I care to count, but I keep getting up. Challenges are put before me every day and I’ll be real honest here and admit that some days, I let it beat the hell out of me. But I still get up and do it again.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I still work on my blog blendedlikeus.com which is all about women empowerment; whether it be stories of encouragement or getting some amens from the choir when you’re tired of wearing the S on your chest and just want to throw your hands up and surrender. Now my main focus is all about the brand of Anissa D. Blair; author and speaker! Right now, I’m eating, sleeping and breathing my first debut novel, ‘Your Husband My Man’. What I’m most proud of with my company the fact that no one knew who the heck Anissa D. Blair was but now, I’m getting mad shout outs from strangers telling me how my book had them laughing, cussing, crying and cussing some more. I’ve gotten so much positive energy from people to take a leap of faith and buying my book. What sets me apart from others is absolutely nothing more but knowing that I will make it. All that I have to visualize will come to fruition and you will see me everywhere.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about Atlanta is that it is truly the land of opportunity. What I like least about this city is the traffic.
