Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Williams and Jennifer Harris.
So, before we jump into specific questions about your business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We created and established our business Kammer Avenue Cigar Bar & Lounge from our memories growing up with our grandfather, our bond, laughter and fun times spent together were the best! Our Grandfather was very fond of his Cigar’s and I was always amazed by the unique color and various different styles of his Tobacco Pipes and the smell of them too.
When I was just a little girl, my grandfather and I would sit on the front porch and we would talk about the importance of decision making, life’s challenges, taking ownership of my actions and the most important of them all which was too always, always keep my word.
I remember my grandfather during our talks, gnawing on the end of his Cigars “never were they lit though” and I use to think to myself that it was the weirdest thing, but how do you tell the man that you look up too and respect more than anyone in the world that they are doing this unique and historic pleasure all wrong? Instead, I would choose to smile and say to myself “grandaddy, you’re supposed to smoke the Cigar not chew it ” unbeknownst to me when he wasn’t chewing his Red Man Tobacco, I now know that he was gnawing the end of Cigar’s for the enjoyment of different flavors. (Laughing)
The best ever for me hands down were the sips or two of Little Kings beer that he would allow me to sneak behind my grandmother’s back, our singing, and the imitation to his favorite Idol James Brown and the song, “This is a mans world” but it wouldn’t be “NOTHING” without a woman or girl! Was by far the BEST!
Has it been a smooth road?
No, the road hasn’t been smooth and I haven’t expected that it would be, anything worth having is definitely worth the blood, sweat and tears and it has definitely been quite an experience.
Dealing with unsupportive associates, friends and family members in my opinion, would be my worst struggle, working diligently, to collect paperwork, put in place permits and licensing, making the necessary phone calls, preparing for meetings, etc. are demanding and do take up a lot of your time. But you find a way to make it work. Perseverance, determination, staying grounded and before the start of each day put your GOD first! And you’re guaranteed to win! I believe it and I’m sticking to it! 😊

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see ourselves expanding within the next ten years adding two more locations definitely one in our hometown which is Dayton, OH and the third is to be determined.
I also, see myself in the future on a platform as a motivational speaker – speaking my truth, triumphs, heartache, disappointments and my greatest achievements.
Our goal is to place Kammer Ave Cigar Bar & Lounge on the map as one of the most talked-about and sought after business in Atlanta and we plan to do it by keeping our “WORD” contributing, participating and committing ourselves to our community and nonprofit organizations.
