Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Kibe and Julius Muthami.
Turmeric Magic is a small, local company based in Kennesaw, Georgia. It was founded by Anne and Julius Mbau proud parents to three beautiful children: Ian, Jalen, and Leila.
There is a story behind this amazing drink. Let us walk you through our Turmeric Magic story. We started making Turmeric Magic as a home remedy in 2014. We mainly used it to help fight common colds, back inflammation, and any flu-like symptoms.
After Anne gave birth to our second child, she injured her back while exercising. For five years she went to the doctors on and off for treatment. All they did was multiple x-rays and prescribe pain medication but never offered any real solutions. Three years ago, Julius happened to stumble upon a documentary about pain medication such as hydrocodone and Percocet.
While watching the documentary, he learned that these medications contain narcotics which makes them highly addictive. When he got home, he flushed all of Anne’s prescriptions in the toilet and started researching alternative solutions for chronic back pain. After we had tried everything including acupuncture, hypnosis and physical therapy we come across an article about the Turmeric Root.
The health benefits were incredible! It was then that started Anne started using turmeric daily as an ingredient in her morning smoothies. After about a month, the pain was gone. To this day, she has not had to rely on any of the previously prescribed medication. After seeing the results, Julius started making different juices and smoothies with the new found ingredient. He eventually came up with his amazing recipe that is now “TURMERIC MAGIC.”
He made the drink each morning, and we quickly replaced our morning cup of coffee with this new beverage. We noticed that we rarely got any colds during the flu season and Julius had better endurance during his workout sessions. Any time any of us would get any stress-induced headaches, the drink would be our go-to for pain relief.
Julius also noticed a huge reduction in his cholesterol levels that were very high. We shared the drink with our friends, and they all seemed to enjoy it a lot. They boasted some health benefits as well. This was when we decided to share the information and drink with the world! That’s was the beginning of Turmeric Magic.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been easy. Little did we know that to be able to sell any beverages in stores for consumption you have to go through the Department of Agriculture. We started making our labels from home thinking it the same as owning a lemonade stand. As we started approaching some stores, we got rejected not knowing that there were standard and procedures that needed to be followed (Licenses, Insurance, Labeling) among others.
Being parents of three kids and both of us holding full-time jobs become very challenging and exhausting and many at times was when we wanted to throw the towel down and give up. Finances were becoming a challenge as we had to tap into our saving to build a brand that was not showing in returns what so ever. This leads us to maxing all our cards and getting loans as we had no idea on the best way to handle this.
We never had anyone to hold our hand through this process, so we had to use google and a lot of reading to get our brand where it is right now. We are still learning, and the journey is starting to show some rewards.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Being born and raised in Kenya one memory, we do share as a couple (even before we met) is the wholesome food we got cooked for us straight from our parent’s gardens. We both wanted so much to belong in the city and go out and eat pizza like all the rich kids, little did we know we would miss that Ugali and Sukumawiki (Staple Kenyan food). We had to teach ourselves real quick how to make it ourselves. The irony!
