Annie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Cozy Kids x Blvucci (pronounced Blue-Chee) all started for my love of thrifting. Our brand is heavily influenced by the 80’s and 90’s aesthetic, which can be seen in our bright graphics and playful colors. However, being a 90’s baby myself, I wasn’t old enough to experience the greatest fashion era of all time. I strive to bring back that style and quality while also bringing out a feeling of nostalgia in the wearer. Blvucci is a mindset we created that reminds you to keep a childlike imagination and believe in yourself like you did when you were five. We believe that your inner child should never die and every time you wear one of our pieces, they come back to life a little bit more. We’ve been told our garments are soft enough to sleep in, it literally feels like you’re wearing a cloud. The Kids have Been Cozy.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started this brand when I was 17 and still in high school. I didn’t have any knowledge of the industry, connections, or really any guidance at all. I just made what I liked and put it on a shirt. I’m not going to lie, the journey has been tough and I’m still learning new things every day, but anything worth pursuing always has its obstacles. I made a lot of mistakes starting out that cost me a lot of money, but I’m grateful for the trail and error. Never a failure always a lesson. Creating a true brand vision and mission while also crafting an authentic community has been the single best route we’ve taken to overcome all of the obstacles we face. Take care of your customers and the rest will sort itself out.
Please tell us about Cozy Kids x Blvucci.
Our company really just wants to bring out the inner child that lives in all of us. As we grow up, we start to lose who we truly are to fit into what society expects us to be. We specialize in creating pieces that stand out and make people feel good. They look like they were pulled off a rack at a thrift shop owned by six-year-olds. We’re known for our bold, bright colors and the brand name a lot of people can’t pronounce on the first try. It’s a good conversation starter.
As a company, we’re most proud of creating a lifestyle around the brand and upholding our promise of quality. When customers reach out after receiving their packages, they always let us know the piece is way better than they expected, knowing that we exceeded their expectations feels amazing. Blvucci is much more than a garment that sits in the back of your closet, it changes your whole mindset when you put it on like you can accomplish anything. It’s in the laundry pile every other day and getting softer and softer with every wash, just like the authentic thrift pieces.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
This is a tough one! My favorite memory from childhood was probably waking up on Saturday morning to a huge bowl of cereal and watching cartoons without a care in the world. Or eating the breakfast pizza at school. There’s no way to choose between those two.
