Today we’d like to introduce you to Ansley Briggs and Brittany Lenoch.
Ansley and Brittany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ansley: I’ve always been interested in true crime. My dad was a police officer growing up and I always wondered what his job was like everyday. I grew up reading Nancy Drew and then it turned into watching real-life trials online such as the Casey Anthony murder trial. Funny story, I actually did a biography presentation on a serial killer for my 7th-grade project, people should expect me to have a true crime podcast now. I followed that interest a little bit by becoming a Paralegal after high school and started listening to true crime podcasts on my commute. I met Brittany through a mutual friend and we knew we both liked true crime because of our social media. One day Brittany was like “want to start a podcast?” and 21 episodes later here we are both talking about cases that have sparked our interest.
Brittany: I studied Criminal Justice in undergrad and shortly after I started working for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. It was ultimately my coworkers that introduced me to true crime podcasts and they’ve been my go to ever since. After leaving the GBI and starting law school I decided I wanted to do more than just listen to true crime stories. Now I’m entering my second year of law school and we have a true crime podcast.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ansley: The hardest part for me is being completely public. We all know everybody has their opinions but when your voice goes public people can criticize you behind a computer screen as much as they want. It’s been difficult setting negative things aside and not letting them get to you. I’ve definitely lost sleep over things people have said but on the other side of it there are people all over the world that have become our best friends just from having something in common such as a true crime interest. It’s really incredible.
Brittany: I definitely agree. It’s hard putting yourself out there and dealing with the horrible things that people say. It’s also super difficult to get your name out there and get listeners and do it all yourself as well as maintaining my school schedule and her full-time job schedule. That’s definitely been an obstacle for us.
Please tell us about True Crime Girl Time Podcast.
True Crime Girl Time podcast is a true crime podcast. We tell weekly stories of true crime events that have happened in history. We both alternate weeks telling a story and after the story is done we have the Girl Time segment of the episode where we talk about a trending topic or something that is happening in our life or maybe even a good book we read that week. The last segment is supposed to serve as a more refreshing or uplifting end to the true crime segment because that can be super heavy. Occasionally we will do a full Girl Time episode where we just talk about a big trending topic or we even did one about safety tips for online dating.
Most recently it’s been trying to help families of cold cases by either getting their story on an episode or sharing some information on our social media or most recently getting them in contact with resources that can help them more than we can. It’s important that we continue to talk about these stories and keep them in the public’s eye to maybe one day grab someone’s attention and get some closure for that family. We never really expected families to reach out to us about their loved ones being victims of violence but when they did we felt this pull to help them in any way that we could. It’s been really eye-opening to say the least. We hope to get more stories from families who just need the publics help getting justice.
