Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Jones, II, Esq.
Anthony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I knew I wanted to be a lawyer when I was seven years old. As a young child, I remember being in awe of courtroom scenes in movies. The actors in those scenes always sounded like the smartest people in the world to me. I knew I wanted to be just like them. Some people find it strange that a seven years old can set the trajectory of his life, but in a way, that’s exactly what I did.
The only thing I was more certain about than becoming a lawyer was that I was going to go to school at Morehouse College. My late grandmother would tell me about all the great men that were educated at Morehouse, and I had to be a part of it. I entered Morehouse in the Fall of 2003 as a Political Science/Pre-Law major. Morehouse introduced me to people and a world that I had never known growing up in Augusta, Georgia. I had friends from other countries. I had world-renowned professors, and I got to walk the halls that Martin Luther King, Jr. and Maynard Jackson once walked. It was the lively classroom discussions at Morehouse that cemented for me that I wanted to be a trial lawyer.
As I approached my last semester of law school in the Winter of 2011, my main objective was to return to Atlanta. Although Atlanta is not where I grew up, during my time at Morehouse, Atlanta had become my home, and I couldn’t wait to come back. I requested to do my final semester of law school as an externship with the Legal Affairs Department at Grady Hospital, meaning I got to return to Atlanta in January 2011. Following law school graduation, I worked as an Associate for a downtown firm, gaining expertise in complex and mass tort litigation matters.
In the Spring of 2014, I was able to realize my dream of becoming a trial lawyer when I was offered an Associate position at The Millar Law Firm. At The Millar Law Firm, I specialize in personal injury cases – including wrongful death claims, car wrecks, dog bites, and premises liability claims. I get up every morning knowing that I am fighting for the good guys. Oftentimes as a personal injury attorney, you are introduced to people during the worst moments of their lives, and they are asking you to be their voice. I understand the weight of that request, and I always do my job with that in mind. It really has been my life’s calling.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My path to get where I am has not been easy. I grew up in a family with limited resources. I didn’t know any lawyers or doctors growing up. I was always surrounded by strong women, but I didn’t have many male role models around. I think that’s why I enjoyed going to school so much as a young child. Even at a young age, I knew education was going to be the way I got to where I wanted to be.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Millar Law Firm – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I have been at The Millar Law Firm since 2014. As a trial attorney at The Millar Law Firm, I have represented individuals in complex personal injury litigation claims, including wrongful death, premises liability, car wrecks, and dog bite claims. I have managed hundreds of cases throughout my tenure at the firm, including negotiating settlements, interviewing witnesses, deposing medical doctors, drafting court motions, conducting discovery, advocating to courts, and trying cases.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to continue to be the best possible advocate for my clients that I can be.
