Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Moon.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Anthony. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in a small town 60 miles northeast of Atlanta, better known as Bulldog country to the locals. As a child growing up, opportunities were scarce, and doing the right thing wasn’t always promoted in my community. But, being raised by a strong, determined black woman, I learned the importance of prayer and the unwavering stamina to keep my moral compass pointing north despite the odds. With this foundational basis, I graduated high school with one of the highest grade point averages in my class and awarded the Hope Scholarship.
While attending college that August in Athens, GA, like many high school athletes, I thought football would be my opportunity to provide a better way of life for my family and myself. It was in my second year of college that my aspirations of being a professional athlete came to a halt. At the start of my second year of college, it was mandatory to take an intro level accounting course for my major. Being the only African American student in the class, I was intimidated and sat in the back of the classroom to avoid any attention. My seating position quickly changed in the classroom after grades were given for our first exam, and I was reassigned to sitting on the front row. I couldn’t believe it, but not only did I get an A on the exam, but it was also the highest in the class. From that day, the professor challenged me every day and encouraged me to pursue a career in accounting. It wasn’t until after final grades were posted for that semester that I realized I had the highest GPA in the class, and I immediately changed my major to accounting that day.
Finishing my second semester in Athens, I decided to transfer to Atlanta to attend Georgia State University. There I obtained my Master’s degree in accounting and secured a job in accounting, working for one of the four largest accounting firms in the world. While working at the firm, I had the opportunity to grow my knowledge base in tax and work with some of the largest multi-million dollar companies in the world. I’ve been blessed to meet and consult Chief Executive Officers, Chief Operating Officers, and Chief Financial Officers on tax strategies for their companies. With all my success, I’ve always wanted to help my community and inspire change no matter the odds, so ACM Accounting was born. With over ten years in business and servicing, companies and individuals worldwide were happy to call Atlanta home and headquarters.
