Meet Anthony Tiberia of Sprig Restaurant in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Tiberia.

Anthony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
With a love and passion for Southern influenced food and culture, we (my wife Jennifer and I) opened Sprig 6 Years ago in a little neighborhood called Oak Grove not far from downtown Decatur.

While it seems the Label “Farm to Table” is starting to get a little worn out, our menu is made from scratch with fresh ingredients. We do try and source from as many local farmers and suppliers as possible. When we first opened, we use to have farmers (picture old truck, classic overalls and hound dog in the front seat) drive up to our kitchen door with produce that we’d buy for our menu. Distribution has changed a little over the years, we still buy from those guys. It’s just a little more organized. However, maybe not as romantic.

One unknown Fact about Sprig is that we have one of Atlanta’s largest bourbon collections. Currently standing at about 250 selections. Yes, we have “That One.” Actually, we received the largest allocation of “That One” of any restaurant in the state.

For the bourbon/whiskey lover, we started The Oak Grove Brown Water Society as a way to celebrate and enjoy all things bourbon

Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t say a smooth road. There’s more to running a restaurant than just creating a great menu. Sometimes the business side of things (the non-sexy side of a restaurant) needs the most attention. We are fortunate enough to be located in a great neighborhood where we have great support from our neighbors.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sprig Restaurant – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
While we are not originally “Restaurant people.” I think what makes it work for us is that we surround ourselves with a great staff. From our Chef, Britt Cloud, to our managers, servers, cooks, back to the dish guys, everyone works like it’s their own place.

I’m not really sure if we are known for it, buy my wife and I do not draw a salary from our company. It’s more important to us to pay our staff higher wages. We really value everyone that works for us.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What do I like about our city? Atlanta is truly an International city. Especially regarding its food culture. Any kind of cuisine you could ever want is fairly close by. We have some really great restaurants.

What do I like least? The traffic. I think we should have planned better.
