Today, we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Whiting. Anthony was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Jaszy Shavers.
Hi Anthony, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
It all started at the end of a basketball season in college. While chasing my hoop dreams in school, I became financially challenged. The game of basketball did not provide me with the proper resources to pay bills so I decided to leave school and get two jobs. Caught up in the rat race, I began to seek something that gave me the same fulfillment of being on the court. My initial thought wasn’t to become a photographer at all. I just had the urge to save up for a camera and a few months later, I was gifted a mirrorless crop-sensor camera by Olympus in 2010. I taught myself how to shoot in manual then would go out in the city to shoot street art, landscapes, or architecture. In the beginning, I had no interest in shooting portraits but I used to go to Kid Cudi and Curren$y concerts whenever they has a show at the old Masquerade in Atlanta.
In 2015-2018 I got to work with the media staff at A3C and started networking like crazy. Eventually got booked to shoot a few events during Essence Festival in 2019, where I was connected with Trell Williams. Trell was the host of the ‘Black Excellence Brunch’ in New Orleans with Tina Knowles. This opened up an opportunity for my first publication. From there, I was able to work with AT&T’s ‘Dream in Black’ assigned to cover the Revolt Summit in Atlanta and Los Angeles. After 10 years, I can honestly say that photography has provided the same fulfillment as being on the court.
Please tell us more about your brand, Envision Artistry
I capture events, headshots, lifestyle portraits, and videos. In my opinion, my best work comes from candid shots. Capturing artists while their in that mode is something I could never get tired of. I take my quality and turnaround time very seriously and I feel these are the main things that set me apart.
Jaszy Shavers has been a great friend to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about Jaszy and your experience with them.
It’s always a beautiful experience during a private session with Jaszy. The work ethic is unmatched and the quality is always on point. She can make any studio feel like home.
Shooting to express Jaszy’s brand is always dope because we bounce all types of ideas of one another and we’ve consistently create something from nothing. The chemistry has gotten to the point where we’ve been able to knock out 3 different looks in less than one hour.
I had the honour of documenting Jaszy’s session with Curren$y.
