Today we’d like to introduce you to Brock Sampson.
Brock, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Me and my friends rarely got together to hang out. When we got the chance, we would discuss everything from sports, relationships, movies, music to politics. My friends would always say ‘man we need to start recording when we hang out” and I was like “you know what, that’s a good idea”. I always had some equipment because I’ve done music for like 15 years. So I started researching how to start a podcast and started buying more equipment. I told the guys if we do this, we have to be raw. We have to really tell the people how us black men feel. So they agreed to tell the truth. So I became B-Rock and with the help of NickatNight ITD and Hot Rod we introduced Truth Be Told Radio. This would also be an opportunity and platform for me to be a voice for the voiceless. To spread wisdom, truth and help where I can. This could also be a platform for men to express themselves and not feel less than.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not at all. First, the finances. Investing in a business on top of paying bills to keep everything running can be a pain. Second, the schedules. Picking a good day to record and do other promoting that was convenient with my co hosts work schedule and daily living was crazy. Third, the friendships and relationships. They are going to be tested, period. You’re going to lose some people, you’re going to gain some. There’s no way around it. Fourth and final, working a 9 to 5 and trying to build and promote a business. The long days and nights that come with that can become frustrating but you have to push beyond that. Overall I can say the grind period but I love it.
Please tell us about #TBT Radio (Truth Be Told).
We are a podcast show. We are known for very honest discussions about relationships and world events. We also interview and help promote black businesses as well. I’m mostly proud of the fact that I’ve been able to support a lot of black business owners who were starting up businesses. What sets us apart is the rawness, we are very raw but truthful with our discussions. Good or bad. I recommend you have your grown man or woman ears on when you tune in.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Yes. Having fun with my friends in school. The great teachers that believed in me. That’s where most of my ideas came from. Beating on the lunch table rapping and coming up with comedy skits. Going to the mall to hang out. Me and my friends talking to girls on the chat line and talking about being rich one day. Just enjoying the old Atlanta.
