Meet Antwan Aiken of A.G. Aiken Consulting in Southwest Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antwan Aiken.

Antwan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a young and shy child, I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career in adulthood where I help people and advocate for those that cannot advocate for themself. I thought I wanted to do this objective by being a lawyer until I took my first social work course which exposed me to a new way of advocating for those that cannot advocate for themself. I ended up enrolling in the duel graduate degree Social Work and Public Administration program at the University of South Carolina. I have a Master of Social Work and Master of Public Administration degree from the University of South Carolina.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
What continues to be a struggle is getting my name and services out in the industry and marketing myself in a way that separate myself from the competition.

Please tell us about A.G. Aiken Consulting.
I am a Licensed Psychotherapist. I relocated from South Carolina to metro-Atlanta in January 2014. Upon moving to metro-Atlanta, I became interested in mental health and started my own company, A.G. Aiken Consulting where I provided services on behalf of community based mental health services. To date, my company has five business costumers that I provide an array of services for to include consultation, counseling, assessments, evaluations and diagnostic verification.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I probably would have pursued a career in medicine as I am fascinated by the effects of psychotropic medication on the brain. Also, I would have relocated to metro-Atlanta directly after college and go to graduate school in Atlanta so that I could have started networking while in school. During graduate school at USC, I did a lot of networking but when I moved to Atlanta shortly after graduation, the networking I had done was relevant.
