Today we’d like to introduce you to AriaKai.
AriaKai, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My Journey started off about five years ago in 2015. I started working on my first single called “Show Me” at that time and I waited two years to release the single on my first mixtape called ‘The Beginning To No End’. The mixtape was 11 songs long, but at the time I wasn’t really known. I never did shows to promote the tape because I used to have really bad stage fright. I would shake when I held the mic, and it would come out through my vocals when I sing. Releasing music is always a sensitive thing because you never know how others will perceive it. I soon got over that fear because I had to tell myself this is something I’m really passionate about, something that makes me feel good, brightens up my day. I began working on my second EP called “I’m Only Human”. The main single on the EP was “I’m Only Human,” After I dropped the EP, I started booking a lot of shows so that I could promote myself and make sure people are seeing my face. I wanted to drill “I’m Only Human in everyone’s head because it speaks the truth. We all go through things and many people are afraid to talk about it, so through my songs, I try to say what people feel they can’t. I have always been the artist to keep it real in every song I write. I like to let my listeners and supporters into my life, let others see who I really am. Recently, at the end of July, I dropped my third EP called “Fed Up.” I was so excited to drop this EP because it was a new level for me. Three EPs or mixtapes or albums may not be anything to others, but to me, it’s an accomplishment, it means for me, I reached a new height in my journey, a new platform, a new listener, a new fan, Fed Up was to inform people of who I really am, how I really feel, and what level I’m really on. Women, female artists, are winning right now and it took me a while to come out of my shell and be able to let people hear me, see me, and get to know me. It’s been a journey but AriaKai is just getting started!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t believe anybody trying to showcase a talent has it easy. Music, dance, acting, comedy, etc… all of these things people have to prove they are able to be great at. When I started singing, I was three years old. I sang Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” to my father for his birthday. Now, of course, I was young so maybe all the words were not right, HA! But I knew it was something I loved to do. As I’ve gotten older and more into the music industry, I probably have run into a little of everything. Women alone face a harder time trying to break themselves into the industry because many times, the people in the positions are manipulators and will sell dreams to any artist really trying to make it (that’s how they get you). I quickly learned that not everyone has your best intentions at heart. I’ve recently went through a period of losing my manager, my PR, my dancers, my confidence, my trust in others, my self- esteem, and so many other things because I allowed myself to get depressed and be hard on myself about things I can’t control. It has all been life lessons and situations I have learned from and it has ultimately only made me more alert when it comes to my career.
We’d love to hear more about your company.
My Business AK Musick & Entertainment is a branding company for myself as an artist. I carry myself every day as my business, a person who should be taken seriously, a star in the making. I am very humble and that makes my brand different in many ways. Being able to start and own your own business is a huge proud moment alone because it is something that took time and effort. I took artist development classes at ATLA with Sakina Lestage & KiKi Ely, two of the best to do it. I have spent countless nights researching things and making sure all avenues for my business is covered. AK Musick & Entertainment is something I prove I’m proud of every day and that sets me apart. True Hustler!
What were you like growing up?
My personality has always been very outgoing. I speak to people as if I have known them for years. I want people to feel good about themselves, know that they are more than worthy for everything the Universe has for them. I look out for everyone and would give my last if with no hesitation to people I know are true friends, true family, true riders. I think sometimes I can be very blunt with the things I say, but I never have ill intentions. It comes from a place of love. It’s more about understanding who I am if you’re going to be around me, once people have a feel for me they love me!
