Meet Ariel Omarzu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Omarzu.

Ariel, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started about three years ago. I bought a piano for my kids to play on but found out that I was picking up chords on it quickly. I posted a video of a song I wrote on it on my social media and people were really supportive. I started learning how to plat the guitar, too. I taught myself everything I knew off of some YouTube videos and started making it to open mics. From there, things just grew really fast. I won a couple of competitions and have been playing music for bigger and bigger crowds. It’s wild how fast it all happened and I think people love the story that I am self-taught at home with my kids. I was able to find my talent.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Well, as I mentioned, I have the kids. I am a stay at home mom, I go to school, PLUS I didn’t know how to play any instruments when I started out. I just knew that I wanted to make music. and I think that raw, vulnerable, vibe is what people can hear uniquely in my music. But, there has been and still is a lot of learning to do and things that I need to get in order to be where I want to be with the music.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
As a musician, I am most proud of the accomplishments I have made in such a short time. In just a few months of taking to the stage I have gained a small following, have sung on a song that Eva Cassidy’s brother plays the violin on, have been encouraged by people that I believe to be much greater musicians than me, and continue to grow as an artist on the daily.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have picked up an instrument way earlier, like years ago. It often feels like I am stumbling over myself with my goals and what I have the current ability to do.
