Today we’d like to introduce you to Arius (Natari).
Arius, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing music in February of 2016, I had a coworker/ friend named Alexandria Washington who always used to hear me sing and she knew someone in the music industry whom she felt could help me, His name is P.Kaldone, at the time I lived in Atlanta, Alex told P about me and sent him some videos of me singing and he flew us to California shortly after.
I started recording in the studio daily and P.Kaldone actually moved me to LA to pursue music full time for about two years and became my manager. During that time, I made over 100 songs, worked with amazing writers, producers and artists like Kam Parker, Trinidad James, Aleksei, AC, etc., who all helped me in my progression as an artist. I put out an EP called Pandoras Box in 2017 that received over 1 million streams from Spotify, Pandora and apple music altogether. I kept on working on new music and changing my sound and dropped two new singles in 2018/2019 called 4U and Don’t Mind.
At this time my Artist name was Arius, due to a dub step group having the same name as me and trademarking it, they emailed and threatened to have all of my music removed if I did not change my name, so in 2019 I changed my name to Natari and released a new song called Still Love You, which will be on my upcoming EP called Narcissist which is an acoustic project. I now live back in Atlanta and am pursuing my career here.
Has it been a smooth road?
When I first moved to California it was tough because I had a 3-year-old daughter and I had to leave her for weeks at time with my family in order to go and work before she could actually move to California with me, we had never been away from each other so that was one sacrifice that was really hard.
Having a dub step group uses my Artist name and they don’t even pronounce it the same, do the same music or anything but they trademarked the name even though it is my government name. So I am having to revamp myself as Natari and lose fans from Arius in the process because I cannot let all of my fans know that my name has changed.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a singer/ songwriter, I write and come up with all of my music and concepts, names and everything other than the production of the beat.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe Atlanta is a great place to do music as a black woman, I do think there should be more opportunity for up and coming artists, and more open mics and speakeasy type of things for local artists to perform.
