Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariyus Magee.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My grandfather is a bass player and introduced me to playing the drums as a child. Though I liked it, I didn’t take it too far. As I got older my friend’s cousins back home got me into freestyling and writing music. When I moved to Georgia I quickly met a lot of people who were into this music culture here. I started to make music with friends but didn’t like having the process of trying to get things to work. I eventually taught myself the ins and outs to releasing a radio-ready track and here we are now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. There were trials and tribulations for real. There were the struggles of survival; having to find a way to make it to the next day so I can make try to learn to make music. Having to work up to three jobs at a time only having time to work just to pay bills because of a lack of experience. Not having anyone to really lean on or look to for help most of the time. Missing out with a lot of people my age and a lot of experiences around the time because of me having to work so much. The learning process was a drag. Not really knowing how to learn with no money. Not really having anyone to look to for clear advice. Getting the money together to build my own home studio. Building the experience to make radio-ready releases. Then still having to Learn to market and to sell my own music. To learn to get a show. And to do it all on my own. And to still keep going because I’m far from the end of the road.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a rap artist but I make beats and mix and master. I’m a walking enterprise.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Just communicate. A simple question could answer so much more than you intended.
