Today we’d like to introduce you to Arrie Seals
~ABOUT THE OWNER~
Arrie Seals was born in Columbia, South Carolina to loving parents who shared a common interest in sewing. Her love for fashion was later birthed in high school at the age of 16 when she received her first sewing machine. Following High School, she ventured to the Art Institute of Charlotte where she majored in Fashion Marketing. Around the age of 22, Arrie took her first sewing classes. Within a short amount of time, she found herself making most of her own clothing and alterations for close friends and family. In response to the many inquiries about where was buying her outfits, she began to form her business. “My inspiration comes from a love inside of me to help others build confidence and a personal sense of style.” In addition to her career, Arrie continues to volunteer her time and work on creating the next WOW! in fashion.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Before opening my storefront in 2016, I had three jobs. I worked 9-1pm as a seamstress for sawgrass technologies M-F, 1 pm -6 pm M-F as a seamstress for Deborah bridal, and for myself 6-9pm 7 days a week. That is how I saved 5k and secure my 1250sq ft store. This has been the best decision for my family. I was a home-based business for three years and I gained valuable insight working under a master tailor at Deborah’s Bridal. I really step out on faith and ask God for a sign before leasing this unit because $1,300/monthly was daunting at first. Little did I know, I came into a very demanding industry in my area. I consider myself an alteration specialist and literally have brides crying after their wedding gown transforms into a dream. I want every client to feel their best after their garment walks thru the door. However, everything is not always greener on the other side. I have been to court twice with previous clients. Miscommunication and laziness will hurt your business if you are not clear with your clients. My mentor told me alterations is not for faint of heart and that I would have to get a very strong backbone. Who would have thought?
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Twelve Tailoring – what should we know?
Twelve Tailoring is the best in low country as licensed professionals. We offer made to measure clothing, light upholstery, formal alterations, and sewing classes. We specialize in gowns, wedding gown preservation, and cleaning, suit alterations, upcycling garments, military, and clergy. Our motto states, “Wear What You Love!” We aim for excellence and quality in everything that we do. Twelve is inspired by the twelve natural elements out of the earth. Jasper, sapphire, emerald, topaz, amethyst, pearl, etc… Rev 21: It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like Jasper, clear as crystal.
We are known for formal alterations. We really care about how our clients look and feel. If it was just about the money, there would be a career change. However, when you are the best in your field, your time/talent demands more money. Your talents will make room for you.
