Today we’d like to introduce you to Art by Chw.
So, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was promoting Art and Artists long before I started making Art myself. I finally started to make small pieces of Art after becoming disabled in 2010 after a medical procedure left me in chronic pain. I used Art to help get my mind off what I was physically going through and used it as a form of physical and mental therapy.
I kept pushing forward and slowly started working on bigger and bigger projects. I have recently started working with another medium, gunpowder, and look forward to where this journey is taking me.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road is never smooth, but I don’t believe it always should be either. Most of the issues in my way were in physical ways more than anything. I found that I had to take advantage of the good days and make the most out of them rather than focusing on the harder days that I can’t get anything done.
I have been woken up by a smoke detector and was able to crawl out of my house burning down when I was 21 and I use that experience to help motivate me to keep pushing forward.

I work with spray paint, gunpowder, canvas and wood, in a variety of ways to bring unique works of art to reality.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do believe Atlanta has a lot to offer Artists, but it could always use more! The pandemic has hit everyone hard but local Artists are some of the hardest-hit along with gig workers and the entertainment industry. I think once we can get back to a somewhat “normal” again, that we should do everything we can to help support those in the Arts to make sure they are able to continue to do what they do.
