Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthur Smith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started creating art as a child, so recreating my favorite characters from television shows like Digimon, X-Men, and more. I always saw myself being one of the creators behind a character everyone could love whether they are four years old or half of a hundred. I practiced sketching almost every day in my free time all the way to college. Once I knew that art is something I love, it became more than a hobby for me. I started learning about the opportunities the art industry offered and where do I see my work having an influence. So for the past eight years, I have been creating the foundation for Soul Outkast and creating this brand from the uniqueness and authenticity of my individuality that is relatable.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has not been all good, but it has not been all bad either. I believe that is what molds the artist because the hardships and good times are like a pot of gumbo. All of these moments are stretching your creativity, spirituality, maturity, emotions, and everything that makes a person human. I have made poor financial decisions, doubting my work sometimes, and even overworking and not resetting myself to remain balanced. All of it helped me learn how to become better as a person as well as an artist. I enjoy my journey more than I used to because the destination is not the goal for me anymore.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a visual artist and I specialize in graphic designs, illustrations, paintings, and apparel. I am mostly known for my digital art because it has a certain appeal on viewers which is the youth. What sets me apart from others would be my devotion, spirituality, and rawness because I believe I will never be comfortable with a particular pattern. I am always practicing to unlock a new skill or medium and making it express my ideas. I am proud of how far I have come with my craft because it shows how real God is and how precious your life can be when you are truly yourself.
How do you think about happiness?
Experiencing life the way I am right now because I am remaining in the present more than my past and future. You feel all of your emotions more when you actually live in the moment. I am happy just being me because the materialistic things, money, or even career does not deliver fulfilling joy. I look at them as tools or assets of who I am not my overall being if that makes sense.
