Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Black.
Ashley , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am Ashley Black, Founder and Managing Attorney of The Black Firm, LLC. I was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia, and proudly call metro Atlanta my home. From a young age, I knew I wanted to become an attorney. I wasn’t sure at first which area of law I would practice, but I was certain that my path would involve serving and protecting my community.
I graduated from Southwest Dekalb High School and went on to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, with a minor in English, from Georgia Southern University. After college, I returned to Atlanta to pursue my legal education at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. In 2014, I graduated and became a member of the State Bar of Georgia.
I began my legal career as Associate General Counsel and later served as a Senior Attorney, gaining experience in business law, insurance, securities, intellectual property, and employment law. These roles sharpened my skills and gave me a strong foundation, but I always knew I was meant to build something of my own.
Motherhood inspired me to finally pursue my dream of opening my own law firm. While practicing, I recognized a growing need for trusted estate planning services within the community. Families were searching for guidance to protect their loved ones and legacies, and I felt called to meet that need. That calling led me to establish The Black Firm, where we provide reliable and compassionate legal representation in Estate Planning, Business Law, Personal Injury, and Probate & Guardianship.
At The Black Firm, we call ourselves “The Life Attorneys” because we are committed to helping people navigate life’s most important moments. My journey has been rooted in faith, family, and community—and that same foundation guides the work I do every day to empower others and provide legal solutions for real life situations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning a law firm has been one of the most rewarding and most challenging journeys of my life. As a business owner, I’ve had to navigate everything from managing employees to ensuring that clients receive the highest level of care—all while wearing every hat imaginable, from attorney to entrepreneur to leader. It takes resilience, discipline, and faith to keep moving forward, especially in an industry as demanding as law.
Practicing in estate planning and probate also brings its unique set of challenges. Estate and probate attorneys often meet clients during some of the most difficult moments of their lives—whether they are planning for the future or grieving the loss of a loved one. Balancing the legal complexities with the emotional realities requires not just legal skill, but compassion, patience, and strength. At times, the work can feel heavy, but it is also deeply fulfilling because I know I am helping families protect what matters most.
Through it all, I’ve remained committed to the vision that started this journey: to provide reliable and compassionate legal solutions for life’s most important situations.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is singing in the choir at church. I love music and church shaped who I am and the care and compassion that I have for people.
