Hi Ashley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Ashley Clemons. I am a Makeup Artist and Entrepreneur. I started my Brand AC Cosmetics at the age of 22, while working at a neurologist office in Philadelphia. I always knew that working a traditional 9-to-5 wasn’t my long-term goal. I wanted to create something of my own, something that aligned with my passion for beauty. Growing up, I was inspired by my mom, who always loved makeup and getting dressed up. That passion for beauty was passed down to me, and from a young age, I saw makeup as a way to enhance confidence and self-expression.
I began doing makeup at 19, which deepened my love for the artistry and pushed me to launch my own brand. I spent over a year researching, testing different manufacturers, and perfecting my formulas before officially launching AC Cosmetics on Christmas Day in 2016. My original vision included various product collections, and the first one, Luscious by Lynn, gained traction early on. At that time, influencers werent as prominent as they are today, so I focused on getting my products into the hands of real makeup artists who were actively working in the industry. Authenticity has always been important to me, and I wanted genuine, unbiased feedback.
One of the key moments that propelled my brand was when influencers like Dreyah @Ms_Bentivegas raved about my setting powders. Their endorsements helped AC Cosmetics gain recognition, and since then, my brand has been used by makeup artists worldwide, on celebrity clients, and by everyday beauty lovers looking for high-performance products.
In 2020, I relaunched AC Cosmetics to make all of my products retail-ready under one unified brand. That same year, I had the opportunity to be part of a six-city masterclass tour with Olivia Song @OliviaSong, which helped expand my reach and connect with even more artists and customers. In September 2021, I took a leap of faith and moved to Los Angeles to further my career as a makeup artist while continuing to build AC Cosmetics. Today, my focus is on growing the brand to new heights, introducing innovative products, and solidifying AC Cosmetics as a go-to brand for all skin tones and types.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been anything but easy, and honestly, I wouldn’t have expected or wanted it to be. Every challenge has shaped me into the entrepreneur I am today. I’m constantly learning about business, about myself, and about what it truly takes to build a lasting brand. Growth never stops, and I’ve embraced the mindset that the journey itself is just as important as the destination.
One of my biggest struggles has been navigating everything as a one-person team. Since all of my products are handmade, I wear many hats handling production, marketing, social media, and every other aspect of my business. Balancing it all can be overwhelming, but I trust that as I continue to stay dedicated and focused, the right people and the right team will come into my life at the right time.
Entrepreneurship is full of ups and downs. There have been sleepless nights, moments of doubt, and trial and error. But I’ve learned that success doesn’t happen overnight. You have to stay grounded, keep your eyes on your own path, and remember why you started. It’s easy to get caught up in comparison or frustration, but I remind myself daily to enjoy the process and trust the timing of my journey.
I also lean on my faith. I pray over my business, my customers, and everyone who supports my brand. More than anything, I want to build something that not only benefits people but is also sustainable for the long run. So, while the road has not been smooth, I know every challenge is preparing me for the success that’s meant for me. And when that moment comes, I want to be fully ready to step into it.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success, to me, is about bringing my dreams and the vision I believe God has given me to life. It’s living in alignment with my true purpose each day and waking up knowing I am doing what I’m called to do. Success isn’t just about achieving my goals; it’s about walking in my purpose and having peace in that journey.
For me, success also includes my personal goals, becoming a homeowner, being able to retire my parents, and creating generational wealth. I want to provide for my family and build assets to pass down for future generations. One of my biggest dreams is to show my future children the different ways to create and attain the life they want to live, and to enjoy each day to its fullest.
While I know every day won’t be perfect, success is about having that inner peace, knowing I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. It’s about peace of mind, joy in the process, and the fulfillment of living authentically
