Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Johnson
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.
I’ve been doing hair for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I started on my dolls’ hair (as many of us as have), practiced on myself for a while, then mustered up the courage to work on other people’s hair around the age of 14.
I’ve always had a passion for styling hair and have literally taught myself everything I know. It’s a natural talent and I thoroughly enjoy it. I would often style my little sister and her friends’ hair, and my friends’ hair too. And eventually, I started getting paid to do hair via word of mouth. Back then, that was major for me because I was so young & making money while doing something that I loved. Although I️ still have those same views, I️ now experience a stronger feeling of satisfaction knowing women leave my chair feeling beautiful with their coiffed hairstyles.
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. My biggest struggle has been staying consistent. With fear of failure, I’ve held myself back from reaching my full potential as a beautician. However, I’ve learned that failing is apart of the beautiful process of being an entrepreneur.
We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a hairdresser, so I specialize in providing hair services such as natural hair styling, protective styling, coloring, etc; which further includes braids, twist outs, rod sets, silk presses, weaves (sew-ins), wig construction, and frontals. You name it, I do it. I am most proud of how far I’ve come, and my ability to keep going even when it gets tough. What sets me apart from others is that I am a one-stop shop. You can get any and every style without having to switch up between different stylists.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories would be getting my hair done at our local hair salon. One time, I had my hair styled into a silk press. And when my mom put us in the tub that night with our shower caps on, I decided to go under water thinking my hair wouldn’t get wet (I was super young lol). My whole entire head was soaked. My mom was 38 HOT!! When I think about it now, it’s hilarious. I can definitely see my daughter doing this to me.
