Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Laster.
Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began preparing taxes in 2017 professionally. In 2013 I had my taxes prepared at one of the well known and highly reputable companies. After leaving the office my preparer called me and stated that the IRS did not accept my taxes, because someone had filed in my name already. She then stated that I would need to come by and pick up my paperwork to contact the IRS. No one else from the tax office had spoke to me about anything else but the bill for preparing the taxes.
I was lost. I had to contact the IRS and go through the process of proving that I was indeed myself. After many calls I finally completed the process to receive my refund. After that I began using home software to complete my taxes myself. In 2017 I went to a tax class and now I am in my 4th year as a Tax Preparer owing my own firm. This year I have opened it up to new preparers to partner with me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to this point has been a challenging one. The challenging part is starting something when you have people around to answer questions to getting to a place where you have to depend on yourself and your resources.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Protégé Tax Services LLC?
Protégé Tax Services, LLC is a Tax Preparation and Consultation firm. I am remote right now, but I have plans of opening a brick and mortar business in the near future. I assist people in filing their annual tax return while helping them prepare for an issues that come up. I am proud of my brand because I help people. It’s a service with a heart of flesh.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I read the Bible and I have the Bible app, I have an audible subscription I enjoyed listening to David Goggins his book “Can’t Hurt Me”. I find him to be very inspiring although he is a Navy man so it is true about their mouths. You know they curse like a sailor. I also find Napolen Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich.” I attend church just about every Sunday unless someone is sick. I journal a lot about all things.
