Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Powell.
Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Visionary Visual started when myself and two of my college classmates decided we wanted to take what we loved and were skilled in to create a business where we can record memories. In college, at Middle Georgia State University, we were swamped our senior year with work, internships and classes but we were certain of one thing- what we wanted to leave there with. That was our production skills becoming a career.
As a creative you can work apart of a team with a company to create under someone else’s terms or create your own according to your terms in addition to people who share that same vision.
Myself along with my colleagues Jordan West and Shawnise Addison share the same vision as best friends and business partners. Today we are split amongst two cities, Savannah, Ga and Atlanta, GA still working on the same objective- providing our clients with superb visuals and customer service be it videography or photography.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road for us. We started this company as full-time students so juggling the full load on top of two jobs and an internship; finding clients was harder than expected when you don’t have time left in the day. Even after graduation on May 9th of this year adjusting to post-grad life is still a struggle and clients are steady but we are always trying to pick it up.
Please tell us about Visionary Visual.
So Visionary Visual is a production company that offers videography and photography of any kind. Whether it be personal or for your own business- music videos to weddings. As a company, we specialize in short films and portraits because that’s what we’ve perfected the most, not to say we can’t do all other forms well. As a company we are most proud of our continuous branching out and growth in terms of who we offer services to, we’ve done the videography for professional university conferences to music videos and photography for weddings and just leisure interest.
Visionary Visual is set apart from others because we are a company that is composed of three young professionals who are passionate and incredibly skilled in production and more than happy and willing to make anyone’s vision tangible. We all have a Communications degree as well so on top of experience we have the education that equips us with being able to effectively gather what our clients need and produce it.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood has to be going to Disney World for the first time at the age of four. It’s my favorite but it’s also sad because I got the chicken poxs for the first time and couldn’t get in the pool at the resort lol but just being there with my entire family for the first time made up for that.
