Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Valentina.
Ashley Valentina Hosey is an accomplished makeup professional currently serving the Metro Detroit area. Although closing her fifth year in the industry, her love for art and makeup started at a young age.
In 2013, her self-taught passion blossomed into a career, making her Michigan’s most sought after artist for Special Effects and Bridal makeup. Peers and clients alike seek Ashley’s expertise, knowing they will get honest advice, beautifully applied makeup and a professional and enjoyable working experience. Her continued success comes through listening to each of her client’s individual needs and thoughtfully designing a custom makeup look that reflects and enhances the face’s own unique natural beauty. When Ashley is not doing makeup, she enjoys time with her six-year-old son Ace.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road was pretty bumpy in the beginning. I gave myself a two-year deadline before I quit corporate America. I saved all my paychecks and invested in my makeup kit during those two years. I started out in my living room, doing makeup by trying to get more clientele. That was a real struggle when the business started growing. Too many people coming in and out of my home was pretty scary. Working for free was hard because it didn’t pay the bills. Nevertheless, working for free opened a lot of doors for me.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Ashley Valentina Artistry is my business, where I specialize in Beauty, Bridal, and SFX professional makeup. I mostly do a lot of bridal makeup. I love challenging myself with many different makeup techniques. I work with a lot of everyday women that require natural soft makeup. I’m proud that my business is taking off in the bridal industry and getting published in several local magazines. Being able to do SFX makeup sets me apart from others. Very rare to find a makeup artist that can do very soft romantic makeup and bloody gory makeup.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The role of luck for me has to be professionalism. I worked in customer service for ten years and took many skills from that position to help shape my business. Professionalism and creativity is a beautiful blend for my business.
