Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Rhines.
Ashley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been interested in makeup but, never wanted to go the cosmetology route because I’m not really into hair. I knew I didn’t have the passion for hair back in high school when I took cosmetology and hated it. So, when I moved out to Cali and found a beauty school where I could just focus on makeup artistry, I jumped at it. After I graduated, I applied at my local MAC Cosmetics and got hired. Working for MAC had been great, but my heart is with doing more freelance work. So, I started promoting myself and applied at a local salon. I started to get clientele and I really enjoyed working there. A few months later, I decided to move back to the Metro South Atlanta area to be closer to the family. I do have a four year old son. I now work at my local MAC and at Royalty Studio in Columbus, GA.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been struggles along the way as far as childcare. I have a four-year-old and going to makeup school was a challenge with paying a babysitter, with limited income. I enjoyed living in Cali, but not having much family around was an ongoing challenge.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a makeup artist who plays well with others and can also handle things on my own. I more for the everyday woman. Special events, weddings, birthdays, etc. but very open to doing more tv, film, and print work.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Securing my first wedding would probably be my proudest moment, thus far. Having a bride choose me for her special day is very flattering and humbling.
