Meet Atiim Butler of Created By Zhanae in Avondale Estates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Atiim Butler.

Atiim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a young teenager, I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup until I was 16. I was never really super fascinated with makeup. I did like lipstick a lot though. When I was in 6th grade, I would sneak and wear lipstick to school and wipe it off before I got home. As I got older, I was allowed to do my eyebrows so that’s where I really started. I remember thinking how complicated makeup was and not knowing what “contour” or “highlighting” was and where it went on the face. I just started watching a bunch of videos and eventually the information sunk into my brain. In 10th grade I started to play around more with makeup. I had a dance performance and we had to do our own makeup so I went to the beauty supply store and bought the cheapest makeup ever.

From there, I just started to play around with it more or try new looks and I discovered I was really interested in eyeshadow. My sister bought me my first name brand eyeshadow palette (Too Faced Sweet Peach palette) and I felt like I was doing something. I then started buying more makeup and collecting different things to try different looks. Eventually, I started to do my makeup every Friday and try something different each time. In June of 2018, I decided that I wanted to make my artistry a brand and that I wanted to paint other people’s faces as well as my own and that’s when I came up with my brand, Created by Zhanae.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it has been difficult. The only possible thing that hasn’t been smooth is buying makeup. Good makeup is very expensive and the money is not always available. Also, for me, promotion is hard so I definitely need to put myself out there more so I can get more recognition.

Created By Zhanae – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a makeup artist. I specialize In safely applying makeup to clients faces and granting them their beauty wishes. I like to play around with my products. I would say I’m known for taking on makeup challenges and trying bold looks. I’m proud that I still Haven’t given up yet. I still believe that I can Make it to the top as a professional celebrity makeup artist and be very successful in my business. I think what sets me apart from others is that I think of doing makeup as art. My logo has crayons on it instead of makeup brushes and lipstick because I want It to convey the idea of creating a masterpiece and not just putting makeup on someone or myself.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career has been stepping out of my comfort zone and doing makeup for the fashion designer Jordan of jorsani by Jor for her video shoot. I didn’t think that I was Professional enough to do that but my friend encouraged me and I ended up doing it and It went very well.
