Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashdyn Unique Neal.
Ashdyn Unique, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have a BFA in Professional Theatre from North Carolina A&T… I was a featured singer in Black Nativity with Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, and Forest Whitaker. I have experience in stand in work(*Denise Boutte for TV One’s Where’s the Love, *Kimberly Hawthorne for OWN’s Greenleaf, *Yolanda Adams for BET’s Sunday Best, *Brandy Norwood for BET’s Zoe Ever After, 2016 Trumpet Awards) Stage hand(giving cues), props, painting sets, etc. I’ve done voice over work for Ward-White productions for dentistry commercials and churches!
I’m excited about growing in every aspect of this industry. I was bullied really bad in school from moving around a lot (I’m a military brat that was born in England and have dual citizenship) and had low self-esteem so Acting and Singing gave me an avenue of expression!
Has it been a smooth road?
Being bullied while being a considered different for loving LIFE!! Spit on, pushed into lockers, cornered in bathrooms, I ate lunch everyday by myself!
Going to College receiving my BFA, learning who u was and accepting who I am!
Has there been people or an institution that has played a pivotal role in your career?
My mother Karyn has missed work to ride the bus with me from North Carolina to New York for an audition for a role I landed me I am LOL I have unlimited support from the new nation my father Pastor James Neal my siblings and bread in tray of worked with Angela Bassett and she’s a huge encourager of why I haven’t given up example of high morals and good standard you don’t have to just except any role to make it. Have a standard of what you’ll accept as far as roles and still work endlessly in this field we love!! She’s told me she was inspired by me! Who would of thunk it lol and to never give up!! I’m grinding still!
What kind of work do you look forward to most?
A sitcom something like A Different World! I’m really hoping Debbie Allen creates the next generation series I’d love to work with her! Also, I’d love to have a campaign for a positive product like Flow from Progressive or the Lysol Lady!
What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned over the course of your career?
In all honesty, there isn’t anything I’d do differently. In this game you either love it or hate it there is no in between and I LOVE it! The twenty-two hours on set… yes you get tired but I eat it up!
Every second and watching what goes in behind the scenes is incredible! I’ve always been a hard worker and I will continue to work hard until God opens that one door for me! That’s all it takes is one door!
