Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael White.
Michael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally from Queens, NY, I relocated to Atlanta with my family in 2005. My main sources of inspiration comes from my family. I come from a very creative and artistic family on both sides. They have always encouraged me to be innovative, self-motivated, confident, and humble. Their support and guidance helped me realize what I wanted to accomplish in life; as a model, artist, and entrepreneur. Growing up watching Tyra Banks show, “America’s next top model” has also been a inspiration in my life. Tyra has taught me simple but important skills to Modeling that Is still used today like, how to pose, to always pose with tension (stretched tight from H2T – head to toe), elongate my neck, and to Smize.
Has it been a smooth road?
No it has not. It’s never easy but that’s what makes it a accomplishment for me, when It is a challenge. I enjoy overcoming obstacles. It brings me closer to achieving my own goals. Some of the struggles were, feeling insecure about my weight, height, look, and not having same experience as other model.
What are some of the influences that have played the biggest role in your journey so far?
My mentor Michelle Bannister has played an important role in my career, because she has been there to encourage me through my failures and accomplishments. I am reminded how she encouraged me while i was in school. I struggled with academics because of my learning disability, dyslexia. She told me to “hang in there, and never give up”. In my artistic classes where my talent excelled, i found strength, self-esteem, and the passion to pursue the arts. At a young age i was influenced by Tyra on America’s Next Top Model. She would identify their flaws and weaknesses in the models and would challenge them to own and overcome them.
What kind of work do you look forward to most?
I am currently working on a portrait of a local Model in Atlanta. I would love to work with Tyra Banks, Zendaya Coleman, Karl Lagerfeld, and Oliver Rousteing and eventually start my own clothing line. As well as open an art gallery. I am looking forward to grow efficiently and effectively working this company.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were just starting out?
If I had to start over I would start by creating a plan. Make a change even if I do resist the change. Focus on my skills and what I want to pursue. Stay motivated, be more proactive and start by working on my weaknesses to excel in my career.
