Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond “Hollywood” Kelly.
Hair guru and celebrity stylist Diamond “Hollywood” Kelly is a woman on the move! A Mid- West gal from Detroit, Michigan, just five short years after receiving her Masters of Cosmetology from the prestigious Paul Mitchell, she opened the doors to her first salon Don’t Touch My Hair By Hollywood, a salon specializing in senior hair care and styling. With close to a decade of varied professional experience, Diamond has worked in every corner of the industry imaginable. With humble beginnings as a music video stylist for some of rap royalty including YC and Future, Lil Scrappy, Academy award winning Three Six Mafia, and the late Shawty Lo, Diamond continued on by lending her skills and expertise to a number of publications including Kontrol magazine as well as serving as a lead stylist during Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week.
Has it been a smooth road?
There have definitely been some challenges along the way. I worked in several salons three which suddenly closed. Trying to obtain and keep a steady clientele was not an easy task. Consistency and determination is what has kept me going. I have learned a lot of lessons. Nothing worth having comes easy and I don’t mind the challenge!
What was you like growing up?
I have always had a huge personality. I am a small framed women but I was so tiny and a child. People were always shocked at my conversation and enthusiasm. I have always been interested in the arts as I was a singer and dancer all of my life. I loved hair and makeup and was always trying to give someone what I called a makeover lol. In the third grade, I took a classmate’s braids out because I thought I could do her hair and oh boy was her mother upset when she came to pick her up from school! But to sum it up I have always been the little girl wit the big fiery personality. The other side of me is a loner. My mother passed from cancer when so was two. She was only 26 and I was the only child. Not having siblings I would play with my dolls. I guess that’s where I started experimenting with hair. I was serious about my babies hair!
Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
My favorite childhood memory would probably be playing Billie Holiday and singing Ain’t Nobodies business if I do in a school play. I got to dress up and wear my hair up like “Lady Day”
So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
I recently opened my Salon, Don’t Touch My Hair By Hollywood. It is a very special salon because we specialize in senior hair care and grooming. I would like to open salons across the country in senior living facilities that cater to the needs of seniors. My goal is to create an environment that they love and create customs looks that fit their personalities. I encourage that no matter what age you continue to look and feel beautiful!
