Meet Atlanta Photographer: Krizia “Blu” Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krizia “Blu” Young.

Krizia “Blu”, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Although I have only been in the Photography industry for a short time, I have been a photographer practically my entire life. I always looked at the world differently and as an adolescent and I was always trying to find a way to effectively express the world through my lens 🙂 But, after trying different avenues like music and writing I was never able to bring what I “saw” to life 100%…. that is, until I was gifted my first camera. From the moment I captured my first snapshot, I knew that my life was pictures. To be able to immortalize a memory; literally stop time…Bring your imagination’s eye to life…. that is something powerful, that I don’t think a lot of people realize.

Has it been a smooth road?
I will say that nothing worth having is without a struggle, so with that said- no it has not been always easy. Getting over the “Novice” hump and being taken seriously was a challenge. I would attempt to set up shoots or get gigs and was often turned down because I did not have enough “experience” but they never looked at my work to know if it was even good or not! I would think, ” How am I supposed to get experience if you no one will work with me?!”. It was frustrated, to say the least, but I never let that hinder me. I pursue every lead and opportunity and take every “NO” as one closer to a “YES” and in-between, I would work on my natural shooting; Don’t need to set appointments with good ole Mother Nature :).

What’s the hardest part of your job?
I would have to say the hardest part of what I do would be finding new and unexplored urban places. Atlanta has SO many awesome locations that it seems like everyone shoots, so I try to find places that have yet to be “exposed” so to speak.

How do you define success?
I define success not so much as a physical thing but an emotional one. It’s not always about having a big house or fancy car, it’s more so much about setting and reaching your goals and overcoming obstacles.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to traveling the world with my camera long term and short term I want to have my own show at an art gallery.

Good luck Krys! I did not know your rep as a photographer. That “minds eye? view of the world is something that is so fantastic. Just wanted to note that while Atlanta is great, for pure urban American city perspective and backgrounds maybe only New York might beat Chicago. They are neck and neck. Atlanta is historic though as well.
