Today we’d like to introduce you to Audreanna Hatcher.
Audreanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Music has always been apart of my life. My first experience with music that I can remember was from my grandmother, my other mother (O-Ma). I remember her playing the keyboard. She taught me the basics of piano and chord progressions at a young age just as she did with her six children. Another major influence musically came from my Uncle “Tiger-Man”, my big brother honestly. We would be in the car together going to the grocery store and he would always have the radio station on NPR. I would hear them playing classical music from Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, etc.; and I would imagine myself playing with the orchestra. I got the opportunity to live out that imagination in the 5th grade when my school system presented the strings program. Once I joined my school orchestra, I immediately fell in love with the violin. It has been an ongoing relationship ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey with music has been great. I love every aspect of music. It could be listening to music through headphones. It could be attending a local symphony concert or a popular artist concert. It could be attempting to produce music myself. Of course, however, my true love is playing my violin. I’ve experienced many struggles as a musician. I actually went for a period, after I moved to Atlanta (in 2011), where I didn’t even have a violin, and it broke my heart. Also, when I acquired a new acoustic violin, I faced challenges as well. It was very difficult for me to pass up certain opportunities to do my passion due to work.
Now moving forward, my biggest struggle is myself ironically. I have, or I should probably say had really bad stage fright. It’s mind over matter though. I made a promise to myself for this year (2020) to push myself musically regardless of fear. So far, it seems to be working in my favor. I still get nervous, but I turn that into positive energy now.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m very proud of my name: A_Violin. The concept of the name came about by simply thinking what if someone needs a violin(ist)? Being that my name starts with A, it just made sense. I specialize in orchestral music. I was classically trained. Claudia Shelton was an amazing music teacher at my high school; she played cello as well. I will forever be grateful for her and her influence musically. Recently, however, I have pushed myself to be able to play by ear without sheet music. It frees the musicians to be able to play anywhere and anytime. I love it. Ultimately, the thing that sets me apart from others is that I want to spread positive energy through music in whatever form.
