21 and The Moon is a jewelry line I created in 2016. I had been making jewelry for myself years before that, and finally decided to make a business out of it after I kept getting compliments on the pieces I would wear. I used to make bracelets and anklets out of hemp years ago. I’ve always loved jewelry that had a special meaning behind it. With 21 and The Moon I really wanted to create pieces, that would inspire people to live their life with intention.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been the smoothest road. One thing I’ve learned is that patience is absolutely necessary. Being an entrepreneur is stressful at times. Having to fund everything by myself as well as creating all of the pieces, & doing all of the marketing for the company can be a lot of work. It’s a one woman show over here, but I’m really thankful that I am able to follow my passion. I quit my corporate job and started this brand, so at first I was caught up in that mentality that I have to get up Monday thru Friday at the same time and work 8 hours a day. But I realized that when you’re running a business based off of your creative expression, it doesn’t always work like that. You have to create when you feel inspired to do so.
21 and The Moon – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
21 and The Moon is an intentional jewelry line. I make mala beads, bracelets, and waist beads using natural crystals and gemstones. Our waist beads are definitely one of our most popular items: I think it’s beautiful that more and more women are wanting to adorn their waists. I’m really proud that I am able to make pieces that really connect with the wearer, and their mood or the mood they want to attract. Each piece I make is made with love and intention, and I love that our message resonates with our customers.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is setting a goal and giving your all to accomplish that goal. Whether or not you accomplish that goal is irrelevant as long as you did your very best and put in the work. Things don’t always happen when you want them to put when you’re continually sowing good seeds you will eventually reap the benefits.
