Meet Auriel Kwarteng of New York City

Hi Auriel , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
When this question is asked, we usually hear the typical answer, “Fashion has always been my passion which is why I started my brand.” But I have to be honest, this is completely true for me. Since I was a small child, I remember spending hours playing dress up with different outfits and playing mix and match with my clothes. As I aged, nothing changed either. I was always my friends personal stylist when they needed help with an outfit. Last year I told myself I needed to take a serious step in putting myself out there, and I founded STYLEDBYYAK, my styling services. I utilized Instagram and created virtual styles for my audience which brought in customers and more followers. This year I decided to even take a bigger step and opened up my fashion boutique, The Klauset Fairy. I initially wanted it to open it in March, but COVID had other plans and I had to wait until August to launch the store. With the Grace of God, that wait turned out to be a blessing because I had a lot of time to brainstorm and figure out ways to put out my brand. It’s been two months since Ive launched and I have so much more in store. But I have faith that what I have envisioned with The Klauset Fairy will be brought to life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There has definitely been some struggles so far. Launching a business during a pandemic, a race war, and an election makes it harder to stay focused. However as an entrepreneur you have to understand that events will occur in all forms and you just have to try your best to be consistent.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about you’re your work?
I’m a fashion stylist and also run my own fashion boutique. Most people know me for doing both. I’m most proud of myself for starting because I finally pursued my dreams. A year ago I didn’t see myself doing this. I believe my creativity sets me apart. I love to create an experience for my audience and have them engaged because I love content. I try my best to stand out in everything I put out.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Try to find ways to always to be consistent. No matter what.
