Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Riddle.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started playing piano as a small child and really have been taking it seriously since I was six years old. I attended a fine arts high school where I worked on my craft in classical and jazz piano. When I was 15, I started recording music in my basement all the while competing in classical piano competitions. This kind of grind is something I’ve always been passionate about. Now, while attending Loyola University in New Orleans, I am continuing to fine-tune my skills in recording and performing my own music. I fell in love with this process of growing as an artist and I’m so excited to see where this journey takes me.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Something that some may not know is that this business is TOUGH. It’s a lot of hard work with no results for a long time. I’ve spent many sleepless nights working on music that I would never release and would never release the ears of my listeners. It’s a struggle balancing all of the different aspects of the music business when you’re a small artist because you have to be your own agent and manager at times. This is what I love to do, so I’m okay with whatever it throws at me sometimes.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am an R&B/pop artist that specializes in ear-grabbing melodies and out-of-the-box chord structures. I’m the only artist in this genre that I know of that is a dancer, jazz pianist, and vocalist. I am very proud of the discography I’ve created so far, and look forward to what is to come!
What were you like growing up?
I was always the kid getting everyone else in trouble honestly. I was outgoing, mischievous and very sociable. I was the kid in elementary school that had to sit right next to the teacher because I couldn’t manage to behave, yet have very intense, deep, adult conversations all day every day. It actually became to be my favorite part about school. I can distinctly remember having my desk right beside the teacher’s desk in several different grades not even wanting to sit beside my friends because, by that point, I had gotten so skilled socially, that I had no interest in what 8-year-olds had to say. I absolutely loved music my whole life, and that same love burns now.
