Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Heil-Sonneck.
Barbara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally a native of Germany I moved to the States in 1996. After 15 years in an international management career in the corporate world, I decided to start to fulfill my passion for Real Estate and Design in 2001.
I would buy run-down spaces and turn them into beautiful places to live-in on a budget and increase the profit line, setting the stage for closing the sale by increasing the desirability of a product – out of this concept Design2Sell was ‘born’.
Design2Sell was officially up and running in 2007. I am constantly re-inventing myself to gain more knowledge in different positions and industries which ultimately helps me to think creatively and move the company and industry forward.
I am currently on the Board of Advisors for the Home Staging & Redesign Association stationed in Dallas, Texas and serving as President of the Real Estate & Staging Association Atlanta chapter where we aim to bring together Stagers in the metro Atlanta area.
I love to travel, spend time with my family and I make a conscious effort to experience one new thing I have never done before every year.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As any entrepreneur would say there are difficulties that are bound to come up in starting a business. Bumps along the way are a natural progression to success. When any difficulty arises, I adjust and try a different route. As hard as things can feel sometimes, I try to look at every challenge as a learning opportunity for the future.

Design2sell specializes in Vacant Home staging, offering DIY Consultations to Full-Service Solutions. We bring Target Staging and Lifestyle Merchandising to our clients. While traditional Home Staging is neutralizing to appeal to the wide majority, Target Staging is to appeal to the demographics of the most likely buyers.
Staging a house for sale is not just making the space look pretty but creating a lifestyle experience for the buyer. Staging a home should never be for the homeowner, the agent or even me, the Home Stager. What does matter is the demographics of the buyer, the style of the home, and the price point of the home?
This Design Concept does not only speak to Buyers, we are serving Home Owners looking to upgrade their space and are looking to incorporate furnishings and belongings into their space. We provide interior move- out and move in services which assists homeowners with space planning and furniture selection in their new home.
Our team also works extensively with builders to create beautifully furnished and decorated model homes. We have a wide selection of inventory from our very own warehouse, with a selection of inventory from functional to high-end including enhancement pieces like Baby Grand Piano’s, Pool tables, and more.
We also have our own logistics team and a fleet of vehicles that allow us to get the job done in a fast and professional manner.

I’ve been really lucky. Since starting my career in a corporate I have always had mentors that that would challenge and push me, and I would also try to align myself with successful Stagers in the industry like Jana Uselton, Founder of HSRA (Home Staging & Redesign Association) and owner of Model My Home.
Serving on the Board of Advisors of the HSRA has allowed me to dig deep together with Jana on industry-specific challenges and develop solutions and best practices.
