Today we’d like to introduce you to Bari of split.img.
Bari, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I guess everything started back in high school. I wasn’t necessarily into film production, but I’ve been creating YouTube videos since 2012. It transitioned into film production in 2017 when I dropped out of college. I ended up going back to school and my major changed from engineering to film. Around August of 2017, I decided to get into shooting music videos. Big shoutout to Cole Bennett because the video for Ski Mask’s “Catch Me Outside” was the video that truly started everything. In July of 2018, I finally shot my first video for my boys, Fred and Diran. Things didn’t get serious until January 2019. I think a lot of my success comes from working with Atlanta Xay. He’s like my brother and his creativity match mine, so the end product will always be crazy. Also, shoutout to Kevin Cruz. He was the first Atlanta videographer to reach out to me despite being so new.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. Yes, because I’ve accomplished a lot within the one year that I’ve been taking things seriously. No because it really just isn’t easy. I’ve missed out on a lot of good deals. I’ve been through a few bad experiences in the industry. It’s really a multitude of things. There have been times where people looked at me differently because I’m young and I haven’t been shooting for that long. It’s all good, though because this was never meant to be an easy thing. I went through a lot to get to this point and there’s still more obstacles to overcome.
Please tell us about the business.
Well for one, everyone knows me as Bari or bariallat. My actual business/company is called Split Image, or split.img. This is actually the first time I’m mentioning it to the public, so whoever is reading should definitely go follow @split.img on Instagram. But to answer the question, the company specializes in multimedia. It’s comprised of creatives from photographers to videographers to graphic designers. There’s plenty more on the team. The goal is to bring together the different specialties, or “split images”, of everyone to create something amazing. Now, as far as what I’m most proud of, it’s an entity of split.img that isn’t here yet. I’ll introduce that to the world once split.img hits 500 followers. It will show how this isn’t just an ordinary company.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think it’s my adaptability. I’m able to pick up on things quickly and switch myself around to work well in different situations. I mainly shoot with Atlanta Xay and we’re like the most spontaneous and impulsive people. That adaptability comes in handy when we shoot without planning which is something that happens often. I can also imitate people very well. It’s easy to look at someone’s work, breakdown how they did it, and turn around and create it for me with my own style.
