Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Wilson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Becky. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have over 13 years of experience in hair, skin, and nail care. I am a licensed (master) cosmetologist, educated at one of the acclaimed Paul Mitchell Cosmetology Schools here in the Atlanta area, I am a licensed nail technician (training completed at Dudley beauty college of Chicago IL.). I have extensive experience in the skin, nail, and hair care of diverse client populations. I addition I have 3 yrs of experience in Cosmetology education as an instructor. I am a certified extension specialist and currently looking to expand my knowledge in the study of Trichology.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Ah yes,… No! I relocated here to Atlanta about 8yrs ago after finishing my Associate degree at Harold Washington of Chicago city colleges. Initially, my 3yr old daughter at the time and I lived on campus at Georgia State University. Everything was too expensive on top of my out of state tuition, and capital hill daycare cost. About mid-semester, I was doing nails in my loft on campus and it came over me.
The next day I showed up to my accounting class of about 400. (where you answer with your clicker on the projector) we had just taken mid-terms the professor made an announcement about dropping and if at this point you weren’t getting ahead it would only get worse. I gathered my things exited the first row and didn’t look back… By spring I had enrolled in Paul Mitchell the School ESANI and moved out to Roswell/Alpharetta. I saw it as giving Laila something I never had growing up on the Southside of Chicago. As time rolled on I took some online classes but still have not completed my degree.
However, as an official senior status, it has made its way back to the top of the priority list. My daughter will be 11yrs old in September. When I look back over the past 8yrs there is so much growth and the city itself has changed so much. All I see is opportunity everywhere… after all I been through I’m still only just getting started.
Riveting Wellness Spa and Salon – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Riveting Wellness Spa and Spa is a placed I have dreamed since I was a little girl. My Grandfather was very influential in my upbringing. I remember my mom who is now a retired librarian from Chicago public schools with 2 masters degree asking what I wanted to be when I grew up and with all my heart I wanted to be an actress and a cosmetologist.
My mom went on about how I was smart enough to be anything, and why didn’t I want to be a doctor or lawyer… my grandfather weighed in and was like “the baby can be anything she wants to be, as long as she’s the boss” I have held on to those words every day of my life. I’m the boss! I like to think we specialize in the experience.
In my cosmetology studying Paul Mitchell systems focused a lot on that aspect of the service and it has taken me far. At the very base of my business structure, the important aspects are healthy hair, quality products and serving the total client from every aspect… I collect hair ties and wigs, when they forget them at the salon after a service, I know I have done my job.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me will show up in my family and the memories I’m able to create with them on my journey to wealth. Success for me is measured in my peace of everyday life.
The only goal is to live free, live healthy, have many laughs and if I’m not able to give my children a million dollars to get them started, they will obtain it in my death and will very well know what to do with it. My brand is my retirement plan simply put.
