Meet Ben Miller of Athlete Analytics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Miller.

Hi Ben, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From the time I was a kid, sports were everything. Competing, training, pushing limits — it shaped how I saw the world. But even as I got older and spent more time inside weight rooms and training facilities, I couldn’t help but notice something: the vast majority of athletes were being left behind. Unless you were part of an elite program with access to top-tier technology and sports science, you were training mostly on instinct. There was no clear way to understand how your body actually moved — how your mechanics stacked up, where your risks were, or how your technique could improve. I knew there had to be a better way. The system we built provides extremely important insights on how an athlete performs these movements, and coaches and physical therapists can use this information to make decisions about returning a previously injured athlete to the field, or about their training regimen.

While I was at the University of Georgia, working full-time and training on the side, that idea kept pulling at me. Eventually, I made the decision that changed everything: I left school and my job to go all in on building Athlete Analytics.

We started small, bootstrapping with seed funding and building an MVP from scratch. That first prototype didn’t just prove the concept — it became a real business. We began training individual athletes, turning early traction into sustainable revenue. With those first paying clients, we secured a larger round of funding and evolved the software into the robust, data-driven performance engine it is today. We’ve had multiple Power 4 conference schools trust our software, as well as private sector businesses. It’s also been presented at the Catapult Sports Science conference by Michigan State University’s sports scientists, and Northwestern’s head of Return to Play at CSM, the largest PT Conference in the US.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. I had partners who didn’t work out. I had employees who also didn’t work out. I was told no countless times when fundraising. Early sales were hard to come by. However, the hardest thing to deal with was probably the feeling of having no idea what to do next, and being alone in that place. The everyday business roadblocks were nothing compared to that.

As you know, we’re big fans of Athlete Analytics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Athlete Analytics’ primary goal as a company is to utilize cutting-edge technology and data science to optimize athletic performance while minimizing injury risk. We focus on capturing and analyzing sport- and position-specific movement data—rather than generalized tests—to give coaches, trainers, and athletes actionable insights that directly reflect the realities of competition. Our mission is to make biomechanical assessment more mobile, engaging, and field-ready by turning complex data into simple, decision-driving metrics that support return-to-play protocols, performance optimization, and recruiting decisions. Ultimately, Athlete Analytics aims to empower teams and clinicians with precise, game-like movement intelligence that leads to smarter training and healthier, higher-performing athletes

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I expect sport coaches to start to buy in more to this type of data in order to protect their athletes. I also foresee a shift toward marker less motion capture, which will improve the ease of implementation immensely
