Today we’d like to introduce you to Bena Klier.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I was a young girl, I loved watching movies and would reenact scenes plus I have been journaling for years that’s where my love for film started. I would journal my thoughts, daily events and what my day consumed. Turning each day into a story.
Journaling was and is my way of releasing and a form of personal therapy that after battling breast cancer three times and surviving I started Blaq Orchid Productions after writing my first book entitled Decisions After Temptation and being a background actor on a few film sets I was like hey I would change this, offer that and treat people like this. And from that Blaq Orchid Productions was born.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. I compare it to the birthing process. Lots of pain, mood swings, etc. The struggles in the film industry especially on the independent level are commitment and consistency of staff or crew.
Meaning people believing in your vision and understanding that pay is minimal now yet with consistency and growth things will change.
The other struggle I will say is watching for those who are just opportunists. Once they are discovered some buck the system and next thing you know is you have to defend your name, recast or totally revamp project
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Blaq Orchid Productions story. Tell us more about the business.
Blaq Orchid Productions specializes in directing and producing screenplays. I am known for being a choreo poet. My poems have a unique rhythm to them.
I must say that I am most proud of is how Blaq Orchid Productions has given upcoming actors and authors their first experience in the industry by giving the opportunity of lead roles, speaking line and overall showing the individual how to step out there box and just go for it.
What sets us apart? I must say we truly live up to our motto. Turning your Passion into Purpose.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see plenty of new independent networks that offer the opportunity for independent filmmaking. The shift will be more women stepping out and being creative.
