Meet Benjamin Davis of Noble Clay Fitness in Summerhill/Peoplestown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Davis.

Benjamin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
From 2008 to 2017, I (Coach Ben) opened up No Excuses CrossFit with Kyle Maynard and then went on to become a franchise partner with Iron Tribe Fitness, where I helped build two successful locations in Atlanta. Also in 2008, I trusted in the saving work of Jesus Christ and the life-transforming work of his gospel, after attempting to take my own life by jumping off a bridge in Dahlonega, Ga. Through this new faith and life, I learned of the inherent dignity of humanity and the humility of which man had been created, and his purpose to do good in the world. As I worked with thousands of individuals, I realized the need for fitness in their life. Moving to Atlanta and living in the under-resourced areas, I saw firsthand the immense gap between who had access to quality fitness coaching and who did not. This injustice angers me, and God built up a passion within me to do something about it. In 2017, Noble-Clay was born with the purpose to “invigorate people to be at peace and do their good.”

We imagined the relationships built that would bless others. We believed in a community that was selfless and others-focused. We imagined top-notch, power-full, life-giving coaches serving the members of our community and being a blessing to them and their families. We imagined helping WIELD each person to fulfill their full God-given potential. We believe if we invest in people who live in poverty, the world will be changed. There is a level of untapped talent within people who are in poverty, right here in Atlanta, who may have the answers to some of their worlds most significant problems. There are potential scientists, doctors, law-makers, inventors, who need someone to help them cultivate their talent. Through fitness training, nutritional coaching and the community that Noble-Clay will provide, we believe these lives will transform for the greater good!

*We are created to do good in the world. But, our lack of health is preventing us from doing the good we are purposed to do.* We aim to “Wield the Body” back to it’s intended purpose!

The Problem: People don’t have the fitness they need to do their good. Many don’t have access to do anything about it even if they wanted to.

The Solution: We will provide the guidance (coaching) to obtain the fitness they need to do their good.

We are Noble-Clay, the only individual design fitness gym that builds stronger communities.

We are frustrated with the growing reality of chronic medical conditions in our community, in our homes, and within our own lives. And, is why we have set out to do something about it.

Over 70% of all deaths in the US are related to Chronic Illnesses. According to many statistics, by 2030, close to 50% of all the US population will have a chronic medical condition.

This scenario doesn’t have to be a reality. We believe that there is an available solution. We asked ourselves, what would if EVERY person had access to a professional and compassionate coach who had the expertise and wisdom to guide them in obtaining the fitness needed to live with vitality.

Imagine the transformation that would occur in our healthcare system, in our neighborhoods, in our workforce and our families. Every member has the God-given dignity and value to have access to the very best in coaching. We will not stop until ALL do.

We need you though. This vexing healthcare problem requires a community effort. A unified front and the ONLY way for us to win by ensuring every person has access to a professional coach.

Has it been a smooth road?
We have gone from training 14 people in Central Park with zero equipment to moving into my home 350 s.f. garage, with $6000 worth of equipment. We have grown from 14 to 48 people in a 350 s.f. Garage. We have struggled to find the right location for our model and mission, but after six months of searching and hard negotiation, we signed a lease at 112 Ormond Street, Atlanta, Ga. 30310.

Having a constant flow of people at the house has had its challenges on my “introverted” wife, but she would tell you the problems are worth every bit because the relationships built because of it could not be traded for anything in the world!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Noble Clay Fitness story. Tell us more about it.
We are the only individual design fitness gym that builds stronger communities.

We provide top-notch fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle coaching to all members of the community, regardless of their income or fitness levels.

We do this with our scaled membership model that functions much like the YMCA or High Museum of Atlanta. We say that we are the “YMCA for functional fitness.”

We are most proud of the fact that we are able to provide coaching to the most vulnerable of our community and watch as they transform into strong, purpose-filled community members.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe the fitness market is tired of the chaos of methods and gimmicks promising fast change, perpetrated by the fitness industry and they are ready for a solid long-term fitness solution for themselves. They are realizing the fast diet and fitness approaches don’t really last long term. With much of the industry moving digitally via apps, wearable technology, etc, people are going to realize their need for relationship and community, and they will ditch their petaton bikes, fitbits, and online yoga classes, for a fitness community that offers an individualized program where they can obtain life long fitness, skills, and relationships that bring value to their life.
