Meet Beth Compton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Compton.

Hi Beth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Back in 2018, as a stay-at-home mom, I was in the midst of finding my identity outside the home. Tinlizzy Design Co. began out of a desire to build something that I loved, be an outlet for my creativity and continue to stretch me. In the beginning, I took every request that came across my email, but over time I have settled into my artistic identity and offerings to provide the best experience for the couples I design for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Creating boundaries as a small business owner is essential and a skill that I had to learn over time. When I was getting started, it was easy to be a “yes” person. As a natural people pleaser, I found myself saying yes to every last-minute project, projects that didn’t artistically interest me, and even projects or couples that had some ‘red flags’ I ignored. I was finding myself frustrated, uninspired and overworked.

But as with all things that are hard, it just took practice to say “no.” Once I thought through the boundaries that were important to me, they made their way into my contracts, conversations with couples from the start, evident in my scheduling, etc.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create artfully handcrafted stationery for all special occasions, most frequently weddings. Many of my designs center around digitally created custom watercolors of venues and other special features of a couple’s day.

Over the summer, I launched an updated website to serve couples better through the invitation design process, whether couples opt for a custom experience or a semi-custom experience. Creating custom invitations allows couples to create an invitation suite from the ground up that’s specially handcrafted for them. Alternatively, I provide a curated library of editable semi-custom designs. These designs still feature watercolors unique to the couple but allow for a more cost-effective suite and faster turnarounds.

How do you think about happiness?
I love connecting with couples to bring their ideas to life – hearing their passions, turning around inspired to design, and nailing their vision. When a couple feels like I heard them and I respond in turn with their dream stationery, it brings me so much joy. As I have grown as a stationer by being more authentically myself in all facets, it has only gotten better as I create for others, shining their vision through the lens of my work.
